This is just the sort of project that I love.

There is nothing better than collecting together stuff that looks cool, from a bunch of different manufacturers and making it all go together in a coherent fashion.

It is something I like to do and it is something I love to be inspired by when other people do it.

Top job :).

I have no idea when or where I got this little number, but I thought I would paint it up.
LOL an egg jet. looks appropriate for some little reason. :-)

The jet kinda grows on you, actually.

So, after chopping a chunk off the tip of my left index finger at work this week, I ended up with more free time than expected, and got some stuff painted while I sat around.  The way I hold figures meant that I had the bloody thing above my heart, so it was a good choice.

The Grymn have some cyborgs - the closest I could find to the MEC units in XCom that I already owned.

And, then, I added some OLD figures out of my random 40k bin.  I hadn't even looked at some of these in ages - and I had to find heads for a few of them, because the heads in my bits box that I used earlier (see: buggies) must have come off those bodies.

I will use them as drivers and / or pilots.  Not as physical of an exercise regimen, you know.

And then I used an old Dark Angel figure, and a poor casting I made of him - I wanted 2-4 of these, but paying $22 on ebay for him made me want to hurl, so recast for myself it was.  I told my wife these are the crazy priests in the Vault, who claim that the helmet will be worn only by the Grymn's greatest hero, but that no-one is willing to put the bloody thing on, because it does not work.

Group photo!

And, as I try to make these work for XCom as well, I have been trying to make the abducted humans...my sculpting skills are mediocre at best, but we'll keep plugging away.

And because I painted him, here is a little gem of a 2nd edition figure I finished up as a break from the Grymn.  I love this figure.

And, as a Dolphins fan, I could care what was going on in the Super Bowl, so I finished up some more figures to use with my Grymn army...

First, an officer's wife...

The shading shows up a little better in person, but I am very pleased with how she came out.

And the officers...which one is hers is dependent on the scenario.  ;)

And a group photo!

I am trying the 'clear base' idea out for myself - I have to say, I am not sold on it.  I think it really depends on the figures, and how you will use them.

Not a fan of clear bases either.  But the figs on top of them sure are pretty!

And we have more Grymn.

The sassy pilot -

Her grumpy co-pilot -

New robotic pals...

And a small group shot!

The Gonk Droids are going to be used as plot points in Pulp Alley - I even numbered them 1-5.

Where are those gonk droids from?

Using them as plot point markers is an inspired decision. :D

Cheers
Matt.

The collectible Star Wars figures that were everywhere until recently.  The other droids are 'Assassin Droids' from the same line with some minor modifications.

Nice work. Maybe it's just the bright colors and the female's hairdo, but the pilots remind me of exo-squad. In a good way!

And we add to the horde.

So, since Kev can't be bothered to add civilians to his Grymn, I am forced to try and find stuff to use, and we found these.

Keen eyed LAF'ers will recognize Star Wars prepaint collectible bodies with GW heads.  These started life as Ugnaughts - and the the one with his hands behind his back was only given a quick paint redo.  They fit in size wise quite well.

And they get a flyer, which can also serve in an XCom setting as the main transport.

Repaint on an Avenger Quinjet.  Not a lot of detail, so I didn't spend too much time on it.

This is a brilliantly crazy and eclectic force. Love it. Cracking paint jobs on the Grymn, too!

Loads of fun here, ploughing your own furrow, I approve :)

There is a lot to like here, but the ork figure stands out to me because its a personal favourite model.  Its from first edition 40k by the way, the Ere We Go/Freebooters era.
