To be fair, BA is '40k Historical', a more realistic game is TFLs CoC

Blimey!

At least Warlord have firmly put WWII 28mm gaming 'on the map'

If you don't like the miniatures, don't buy them!
If you don't like the game, don't play it!

I disagree with this attitude - fair criticism is a natural part of discussion. Obviously we draw the line somewhere, but there's nothing wrong with people voicing their dislike of something.

I agree, Gibby. I thought it was just a comment on rule sets rather than figures.

All's fair, and if we don't like the figures we won't buy the new caricatures. I know that I'm not the only one who's stopped buying new from them as a result of the weird sculpting style.
However, that said - why in the name of all that's holy won't they keep selling us the figures that we like? What's wrong with keeping the older ones available?  Is it because they know we won't actively select the new crappy ones?

Yep, also disagree with this attitude.  As consumers I think we owe it to companies to respond both positively and negatively toward product releases.  There are heaps of WW2 gamers out there, and I've seen a rather large percentage (my entire gaming group included) who dislike the design direction of Warlord.  So I'm sure they would be interested in seeing this kind of feedback.

In a couple years when BA or Warlord is entering a new "wave" they may look back and see that a decent percentage of WW2 gamers did not invest in their products because of X, Y, Z and they may benefit from it.  Almost every manufacturer has produced some real turds for kits/products.  No harm in pointing it out.

i love the basic BA rules, fast, easy, fun ...
but i dislike most of the army list books, the organisation of the BA units in "armies" with no historical accuracy, and i don't like some/a lot of the BA figures and models ... ( and the gaps in some ranges )
i'll fight for the rights to say that !  >:(

In the immortal words of the Beastie Boys, you've gotta fight for your right to party  :D

Warlord releases tend to be a mixed bag depending on who sculpted the figures. My main interest lies in the 17th century rather than WW2 and the Warlord TYW/ECW ranges feature top sculpts as well as grotesque caricatures.

My biggest gripe is the figure head system which led Warlord to tinker with the original Paul Hicks/Richard Ansell/Mike Owen sculpts after they acquired the BAM and BEF ranges. And I concur that the original Paul Hicks sculpts should be made available again.

Luckily that's as always a matter of taste. I for one can't stand some of the old figures for example the metal russians but really like most of the new plastic sets with the exception of the late war germans, the british and the american infantry. Like I said it's all a matter of taste.

Blimey, I never said I didn't like the bolt action rules(although i'd agree that CoC is more realistic) I like them and play them although they are not the best out there(being in essence an adapted third edition 40k) and i'd disagree that they did not put ww2 wargaming on the map, it existed long before warlord which has really just taken advantage of the increasing alienation older players are experiencing with games workshop and 40k.

And as it happens I don't buy the miniatures I don't like but that doesn't mean I can't voice criticism, otherwise warlord risks turning into the games workshop of historical wargaming.

Bolt Action resembles no edition of 40k I've ever played.
Other than  in the same way 40 other rulesets do.
Shooting,HtH, measuring and dice.Yeah OK.So 50 other rulesets. lol

I think it feels like 40k to so many because the culture is very similar. Tournament web-lists that throw theme (or historical accuracy) out the window in order to win. Added to that the very weirdly short ranges on the weapons/tanks - just feels as silly to have WW2 artillery 300 yards away from its target as it does having an Imperial Guard Basilisk at the same range.
