Scratch Built Spiderbots!
« on: 06 January 2015, 09:49:25 PM »
Just need to decide how to paint them, but made some miniatures out of a load of cheap plastic components bought off Ebay.

Step by step guide to how I built them can be found here

Excellent work and How-To write up.
I look forward to seeing them painted and in action.

Wonderful, imaginative stuff. Love the tripod too.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

Cheers, how I paint them is going to be a real challenge. Would like to avoid just plain silver/metal. Going to have to do some research on robot paint schemes for inspiration.  8)

You could try salt weathering, with chipped paint over metal.

I'd love to, but never tried that before so it comes down to how much I want to experiment  >:D

Well, if there's ever a time you can afford to play around, it's when you have 50+ figures that cost less than 50p each!

Created another version on the spiderbot, this one has 4 missile tubes.

Also managed to create a beetlebot  8)

The body of which is a clip of some sort off Ebay

Finally got past a serious milestone for my spiderbots. All assembled and undercoated. Even managed to get three test ones done with a green spray. I've ditched the idea of red. I knew my painting wasn't going to be up to it. Probably won't be for green either so here's the group shot.  8)

83 Mk1
7 Mk2 basically more armour and bigger guns
2 Mk3 even bigger guns!
4 Mk4 Missile launcher versions
2 Mk5 Flame thrower versions
3 Mk6 Hover scout versions
and now 14 additional Beetlebots (including two as missile variants)

I think that will do for now, makes and army of 115 scratch built miniatures  :loopy:

Leave you with a close up.

Fantastic. Loopy. But fantastic.

The basic idea is great, then you have churned out an army of the little blighters!!

What glue did you use, the plastic looks the kind of shiny sort that is usually really hard to glue.
