War Rocket 28mm
« on: 14 January 2015, 08:11:58 AM »
I wanted to build a Flash Gordonesque War Rocket in 28mm scale. I saw a post on converting a water pistol with a nice retro shape, into a rocket.
I found a huge "double" water pistol in a $2 shop (it cost me $12). When gutted, and with the addition of surf fins, a Fererro Roche easter egg and a few other bits, I had my War Rocket

Superb.

Great use of a waterpistol.

Very clever and a really amazing result. Even with the unpainted version, I was a bit sceptical, but seeing the lovely finished weathered red rocket was a real treat.

Is it my imagination, or are there a couple of crew in the cockpit?

Yeah, the nose comes off so i can fit about half a dozen 28mm figures on the bridge.

Magnificent!  Toy bashing is great.  We should have a LAF painting contest on toy ashes units or vehicles!   I love the paint scheme on this rocket and the build looks like something from the 80's movie!

This one from Poundstretcher looks very similar.

Tony, the Poundstretcher one seems to be the latest design. I saw a similar one yesterday, about half the size of my original one, and still with only two nozzles. The triple one looks even more like rocket engines. I did consider getting one to make some sort of  1 man interceptor, but did't really have the energy for it at the moment.

The fin on the top is from a TMNT space cruiser toy. I only just bought it, and realised the fin was the last thing I needed to finish my rocket. The surf fins are flat on one side, so would look wrong as a dorsal fin.
