Woodland Board
« on: February 06, 2015, 05:17:41 PM »
So I pulled out my tools the other day and the thought struck me it's been so long; how do I do this again?  lol

I've been building a new gaming board- my old one was just a little bit too big. Instead I ordered about 10 2'x2' foam boards. These should be easier to store and in my opinion are a better size for the skirmish games that I play.

So pretty simply lay out just now; a river, a path and the oval is going to be a very small bluff.

The larger rectangle is a slight indent for the house to sit in. I'm hoping that this will help to stop the base being so obvious. In addition to this, it also means that I'll be able to change the building.

Alot of work still to do.

Cheers
Andy

What thickness boards are you using? Will it need reinforcing underneath due to the river cut out etc?
So many projects..... so little time.......

Yes, I would recommend mounting on some sort of board - MDF or wood - for better long-term resilience.

Thank you for the advice all. Upon reflection I definitely that that I'm going to reinforce the bottom of the board. A wee bit of extra protection. I may also reinforce the sides as well.

I was down in Glasgow for a wedding so I never got the chance to work on the board until today. Managed to finish sanding the river and path. I think the river is deep enough, although I do think I've went a wee bit too deep with the path. I suppose that I can fix it with a bit of filler.

After working on the larger hillock, I decided that the board was still a little flat so I added a couple of extra wee bluffs. I've glued them down. From the pictures you can see that they require a wee bit of polyfiller and some aquarium gravel as scree.

I am hoping that the small depression that the ruined cottage is sitting in will disappear once I've used Captain Blood's patented Gloop.

Cheers
Andy

Might be interesting to leave part of path as sunken and have a pseudo hedge for part of it?

cheers
