Boernward the Magnificent - Dux Britanniarum campaign
« on: 22 February 2015, 11:06:43 AM »
We have been playing a Dux Britanniarum campaign in the Dungeon over the last few weeks. Set around 810 AD with Vikings as the raiders and Saxons as the 'british'. Things have ebbed and flowed through the campaign. Friday evening saw the latest instalment, with the local west Cumbrian tribes pulling together under a new leader Boernward Oferheah (it does mean something if you search). His task to clear the besieged local town and run the Vikings led by the erstwhile Ivar the Coward (always hard to shake of an early reputation although he isn't really very cowardly at all).

If you have played Dux Brtianniarum you will know how hard it is to gain a decisive victory, but Friday saw my new Leader Boernward roll lots of 5's and 6's. this meant he finished the battle pushing the Vikings back almost killing Ivar who ended with two wounds. Gaining a reputation Boernward the 'Magnificent' and collecting enough coin to purchase a new skirmish unit and build watchtowers across his province.

I was lucky as the Vikings fled I was able to swop out cards from my hand to end with five pursuit cards giving me an off the scale 8+ victory.

Here are a few photos of the latest battle you can see more, a battle report and some of the previous campaign on my new blog.

Saxon propaganda! Don't believe any of it, history is written by the victors.

As Vikings cannot write, they are under a grave disadvantage historically.

That's alot of good roles  :o
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Is there an expansion to the original game that includes vikings and Saxons?
"Just don't roll a one!"

We all have to suffer the randomness of the dice gods sometime. We even instigated a special golden dice system in the dungeon to test if I really am as lucky as my gaming buddies believe ! But secretly we all know it is just luck ! Nice when it happens though. M

Sorry just missed your post. Not aware of an expansion we simply play with Vikings and Saxons instead as these are the figures we have.i think perhaps the reason our campaign is moving slowly is the Vikings don't really have their own territory.

The game works fine if you treat the Vikings as the raiders (Saxons in the original game, of course), and the Saxons as the settled kingdoms (Romano-British in the original game).
