New warlord or old Bolt Action?
« on: 14 March 2015, 03:16:01 AM »
As I noted in my last thread, it seems warlord has taken notice of our cries and is re-releasing (albeit with some minor but good changes) its old bolt action stuff, like the 'guarding the château' and German high command, personally i'm all for it.

My question is does anyone else recognize/have pics of the models from the  German ostfront command? I recognize the two crewmen as being old Paul Hicks sculpt but I don't recognize the officer/, radioman or medic, are they re-sculpts or possibly new?I don't think they are new designs as they aren't separate head.

I may be wrong on that score as i've noticed both the french command hq and Senegalese Tirailleurs aren't marked as such and don't seem to be, which would make sense as none of the previous range is separate head so the new kits would have nothing to interchange with.

Here are pics of the units in question, anyone have any answers?

Judging from the faces at least the officer and the medic seem to be old Hicks' too.

All Old Bolt Action - radioman and medic from one of the command packs and the officer started life as one of the sniper spotters but now has a new head.

Brunei35 - Ah you're right, found them! the medic and radioman are from the old ss command...makes me wonder why they didn't re-release that instead of using half the blister and redoing an unrelated figure...but i'm not complaining either way and that's one question down.

So what's everyone elses thoughts on this new and welcome trend? it would seem warlord is at least trying not to fall into bad old habits.

Paul Hicks' work or freakish gurners?

Not much of a choice for me really.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Just FYI, the French army HQ was sculpted by Richard Ansell and the Senegalese tirailleurs are recent additions, done I believe by Steve Saleh just after he left North Star for Warlord.

Are you sure they're Richard Ansell's work? I've always thought of his sculpts as being decidedly un-wargamer-ish.

The original French and Italian BoltAction regular infantry are by Richard Ansell. I can deffo say so as I along with Simon Bargery commissioned them when we owned BoltAction miniatures.

the "coming soon" french support are also old BA stuff ?

Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

 ;)

and they are historicaly  inaccurate
the Boys ATR was issued to troops wearing motorized troops uniform*
the 50mm mortar was never issued, due to lack of ammunition
the french marksman will never have a spoter ( the spoter will be usefull  ;) )
and still those stupid backpacks  >:(

Paul will confirm that but I believe they're Richard Ansell sculpts as well.

Thanks for the clarification. That explains my earlier scepticism.
