More aquarium scenery...
« on: 21 March 2015, 08:17:06 PM »
I was just at the Aquarium Adventure store in Columbus, Ohio and picked up the two rock formations shown below:

Obviously I'll remove the floppy plant, which evidently only stays upright when submerged. I'll repaint to the dark gray colors of my other rock formations (Battlefield in a Box Rocky Outcrops). As for the grass on the base (both pieces have clumps of grass on one side and none on the other), I'm not sure whether to pull it out and keep the base bare, keep as is, or paint the grass clumps with matte medium and dip them in Woodland Scenics coarse turf or some other such foliage stuff to make it appear more bushy. Opinions welcome.

The company's website is here:

The smaller one is 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 3 3/4" (14.5 x 8 x 9.5 cm), and the larger one is 7" x 3 3/4" x 5 3/4" (18 x 9.5 x 12.5 cm). Apparently Hagen/Marina products are available in the US, Canada, UK, France, and Germany.

Here are a few more I saw at Aquarium Adventure (manufactured by Penn Plax and Exotic Environments, which I also found available on Amazon UK):

You sure it's Ohio? It damn real looks like the store we've got here. ^^

Very cool, that these things often are of the right size. The plants in there are very useful, too. I also think, that todays artificial plants are very well made, like multicolored and well defined in most cases. And also the "buildings" ... as shown.
Cool that others use it, too.

I'm a big fan of aquarium decorations and use them in most of my games, including some of the pieces you pictured above. I think you can make great tables pretty much using them as they are...

I had always been vaguely aware of the possibility of using aquarium decorations for scenery, but your post on the subject, my fine wulfgar, aroused me to really look at them with new eyes. I thank you for that.

A big part of their allure is, as you say, the fact that they're ready to go as is.
