Just how did you make the base?
Hello Wolf
I finally got the instructions from the guy (friend) who made my Gladiator Ring
Here are the instructions (I understand 99%of it) -
1" thick insulation, pick diameter, use tac, string, and sharpie to draw circle.
Use long serrated knife to rough cut foam circle.
Use insulation file to bring it closer to line.
Then use 60 grit sand paper and block to sand edge square and to the line.
Then take electrical tape to cover entire edge.
Decide hex size of board.
Center that hex over the hole that the tac made.
Use a fine point sharpie to trace the hex template.
Move template to new location off the center hex, repeat until board is covered.
Now make hexes out of card stock a 1/8 smaller.(5/8 wide hex make paper hex 1/2)
Make enough to cover the whole board.
Use craft glue and paint brush to glue down each hex in the center of the one traced on the board, so you can see the black lines. Making the hex out of thick card stock is helpful, and out of a darker color then the flock your going to use will help out later.
After all the hex are glued on the board find something flat to put over it and put something heavy on it until the glue dries.
Then paint the lines between the hexes black make sure you don't leave and foam showing.
Do three coats.
Then mix the flock you want to use.
Decide on base color to paint something similar to the flock but darker.
Paint a few hexes NOT the black lines and sprinkle the flock over it.
Shake off excess flock and repeat on remaining hexes.
Let dry over night
Inspect to make sure that no areas of foam are showing.
Paint with either color to cover up any foam.
If you dont when you seal it the foam will melt and destroy the area that is not covered in paint.
Lightly seal, inspect for damage, if none seal again.
Hope you understand. This is exactly what I received from him.
