Thanks folks. It's nice to see a faction I always had on the 'someday' list actually materialising and due on the table imminently. With all the standard judges now done, I'll be moving onto the characters, of which there are four. I won't tackle Kazan or Orlock just yet, but the officer and senior judge are due some paint, as well as the monstrous sentenoid.

Borzilov looks great.  Im particularly glad that you have tackled the Sovs first.  Like you I didnt know if I would ever get to play a game with/against that faction, but I am really looking forward to our first dust up :)

#9: Benny the Bat-glider

A perp with a batgliding suit and a big moustache today.

Bat-gliding is a common pastime in Mega-City One.  Like many of the earlier sculpts from the Mongoose Publishing Judge Dredd range, this design comes straight from one of the Daily Star strips.

Although perhaps one of the more unusual Mega City One concepts to render in miniature, the setting is defined less by the Judges than by the behaviour of the citizens.  As such models like this sum up the setting rather nicely I think.

The blog post for Benny is here.  Thanks for looking :)

Brilliant!
 8) 8)

You are right, it is the citizens of the Mega-City that make the mad, mad world of Dredd come to life.

You have done a great job on all of these miniatures :)

It is a shame that some of the miniatures themselves aren't better sculpted... but even the bad ones, you have polished very nicely :)

Thanks for all the kind feedback folks, this project continues to be one that brings me a lot of pleasure.

Thanks Inso :)

Its true that the range has a number of sculpts that might be considered harder to warm to than others.  At this stage though I decided to treat it as a "cup half full" sort of affair and focus on the positive elements.  I have wanted to get work on a Dredd miniatures project for as long as I can remember, so rather than get myself worked up about what might or could have been, I decided to get stuck in.  Life is short and I want to paint Dredd figures, so now is the time.

Batty is fantastic. I really love the looney nature of the Dredd universe. That's the only thing I didn't like about the Karl Urban movie. Great movie, just not goofy enough for Judge Dredd.

In fact, goofy enough might be why I like some of the Mongoose and Citadel minis. They might be dodgy sculpts, but some of the original art could be dodgy in places. I like the works of Carlos Ezquerra and Mike MaMahon, but they didn't exactly draw proportions accurately. Not everything was Brian Bolland.

Me too :)  It forces the reader to invest a little more to "get on board", which can help to get participants more invested in a story or setting.

Amazing as always!!!

Thank you Doctor!

Benny is a great character, considering his extremely brief tenure. The sports look to his bat suit anchors it into believability nicely. Considering there actually are wingsuits now, Benny doesn't seem a far fetched as he once did...

Senior Judge Gogol is my latest submission for Judgement Day. I like the caped look to the Sov senior judges, and this guy looks ready to order wave after wave of his own men to their deaths.

He's already been at work ordering his judges into the fray. You can check out the first battle report below.
