Pre-Dreadnaught Naval Games
« on: April 28, 2015, 12:37:05 PM »
Some years ago I made two fleets of 1/3000th pre-dreads, one British and 1 Turkish. I also built a French battle squadron who switched sides according to what sort of game I wanted. I have just come acros these old slides showing the ships and and also one showing the construction. Vinyly floor tiles in 2 or 3 layers. It carves beautifully and superglue holds it fast. Decked with polystyrene card. Plastic superstructure and details. Masts were wire with fighting tops from tank road wheels (Churchills were favourite). I stil have them, and even took them on holiday to Turkey back in about 2000.

Nice work! I did something similar many years back for Paul Hague's naval rules.

Slides, scratchbuilt ships, a headland with a fort, pre-Dreadnoughts, what's there not to like?

Looks great!
There is something very special about pre dread naval games and the paint schemes are a big part of it for me as are the very shape of the hulls. Always fancied going further back to the post Ironclad, turret ship era. Making your own ships!! Well done!!

I have an Edwardian fleet painted in white and gold c. 1903 from Navwar which I added masts too. We have a house rule when we play multi player games that you cannot discuss manoeuvers with the others on your side - no radio - so it makes for an interesting game  lol
