Bushy Run Battlefield opening tomorrow.
« on: April 30, 2015, 07:22:48 PM »
We will be opening the visitor center on Friday May 1st at 9 a.m.

The site will be open from that point on Wednesday-Saturday from 9 -5 and Sunday from noon-5.

The battlefield is located in Jeannette, Pa, about 40 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It is accessible from Rt. 22, Rt. 30 and is not far from the PA turnpike.

At the site we offer either walking or golf cart guided tours of the battlefield as well as tours of the visitor center if visitors request them.

Admission is $5 USD for adults with discounted rates for seniors and children. Admission is free for members of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society and active duty military personnel.

We have expanded the scope of our educational program to include more military history than just the battle as well as information about Native American culture and colonial culture of the period.

Also we will have our interactive diorama open so for those of you interested in gaming the Battle of Bushy Run the figures and terrain will be available for you to do so at the small cost of admission. All you would have to do is bring rules, tape measures and dice.

I think I will have to take a trip out there to see it this summer. I am reading "War on the Run" about Rogers, and it is a great read. In fact, I just finished the chapter covering the battle...!

Great!  It is well worth the trip and if you are from out of the area, there is also Ft. Necssity, Ft. Ligonier and the Braddock's Defeat History center not far away and worth visiting too.

After reading about the battle you will want to see the field.  The trees aren't there but they were the most influential factor in how the battle turned out.  It was the topography.

We are having our Nature Walk this weekend so it is a good time to come out and get two tours for the price of one.  The Nature Walk will have two guides leading it that will talk about the flora and fauna of Western, Pa and the use that people have made of them over the years.

After that you can stick around to take a tour of the battlefield with our tour guides.  All for only $5 or free if you are a member here or active military.
