Wargames Foundry ancient Greece Cavalry.
« on: 03 May 2015, 01:58:31 PM »
New project that will require some WF Greek light Cavalry, how do you fix the bloke to the horse after painting? Do the figures come with a peg and a hole in the mount, or will they need drilling and pinning... also do WF figures come with spears or will I need 'em separate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

They don't have a peg - they don't need one.
I use an all purpose glue (UHU or Bostik).
Never found it necessary to drill or pin. Just squeeze the legs together  a bit with smooth jawed pliers after you've glued the rider and he won't come loose.
I always glue riders on before painting - you get a better bond that way.

Oh, and they don't come with spears, but thin brass rod is excellent for that. Cut to length, hold one end in pliers and whack with a hammer and you'll have a perfect spearhead.

What about the Foundry Hoplites do they come with spears, hope so, as the large point and fluted butt made the Hoplite spear such a dinstinctive looking weapon.

They come with wire spears so no fluted butts I am afraid. Other manufacturer sell cast hoplite spears though if that's something you really want. They are just easily bent though.

Somebody (but I can't recall who) sells cast spear head/butt spikes to go on wires.
I find using brass wire and flattening one end is sufficient. You can do the spike at the other end with paint as it is the same thickness as the spear.
