Weathering Wood
« on: 14 October 2008, 06:49:23 PM »
Been prowling some Model Railroading sites (yes, I'm into that, too, mostly scenery and buildings, although I do have a beautiful running wartime Deutsche Reichsbahn BR-50).  Found some downloadable PDF's on 'Staining and Weathering Stripwood'.  The method I've been using until now generally gives me fairly light, brownish tones.  The articles present techniques which will produce various gray, brown, red and black tones.  Well worth reading.

What is "stripwood?" It's apparently not balsa or basswood.

Actually, it is basswood, usually.  It's normally packaged by scale size , in varying amounts.  Look for Mt.Albert or Northeastern brands.
