Empress Modern Russians anyone painted?
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:23:12 PM »
Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has painted up any of Empress' Modern Russians (not the chechen ones)?

Has anyone got any good suggestions on paint colours or reference material? Im thinking maybe the old blister pack sponge might come in handy for this.

This is an outdated version of the uniform.

These brown spots are so small that they do not "are read" even from a distance of a couple of meters.

I agree that the brown is hard to see. In some picture you can see them and sometimes they blend right in with the green. This leads me as a miniatures painter to several problems that I struggle with. If I paint them "Realistic" then they turn out to be green on green with very little contrast and look blobish and poor! At least the brown adds some contract so it looks like camouflage. So if i look at the uniform at a distance I see it like this:

I still see a bit of brown at this distance (but again it depends on the picture and the lighting) but I do see a good contrast between a light and dark green. Do you have any suggestions on vallejo paint colors to try? I am willing to paint up another miniature to see how it turns out.

Thanks

I do not use paints, "Vallejo". I use Russian artistic acrylic paint "Ladoga". Usually, I myself mix the desired color, not use the factory color of paint...

I would tried to use for gel spot picker close-cropped brush hitting the end face.
Something like this :)

Good idea! Now I just need to figure out what colors to use - unfortunately I am not very good a mixing colors. I will produce another test figure and see what I can come up with.
