I'm working on one now, pushing well beyond the historical into David Lynch meets Tacitus territory: a Celt with a second atavistic head sprouting from his neck in a combination of ratted out Centurion parade armor and stolen finery. Better seen than explained, I should have it and a few others up and posted by midweek. This went from being a quick side project to a time sucking (but fun) monstrosity. It's trouble when the figures start tenderly whispering "F@ck Work!" in your ear.

Thanks Tyrion! It's turning into a bigger and much more fun project than I imagined, including a few sickly circus elephants dragooned into service, reworked (sadly out of period) Sassanid and Seleukid bits and even a portable shrine to Eris dragged by defeated legionaires with (what's intended to be) dummy horseheads.

A few years ago i put together a mostly plastic based slave revolt army. There were only really Wargames Factory available at the time. From a mix of the Numidian, German, Celt, Zulu & Romans with German and Roman cav I put together a force quite quickly that looked really 'varied'. Nowadays I'd be spolit for choice of much better quality plastics. As someone suggested previously Perry Ansar with head swaps would  make really good basic rabble types. Warlord Cesarian Romans with some head/shield variety would make nice better quality types. Agema velites are nice and I'd still use some (though a lot less) of the Factory ones listed above. With shields from the bits box and a mix of weapons I think you'd be on to a winner.
Here are a selection of pics of mine (sorry for the poor quality photos- the camera was new when I took these).

Full of ideas !

That's the advantage of plastic. Many possibilities and very various poses available.
Great.

Great looking mob, PBJ. I hate to admit it but I have a growing preference for plastic over metals.
