A few months ago I painted a platoon of British Paras in 28mm (there's a thread for them on here somewhere), a friend of mine liked how they had turned out and asked me to paint some for him only in 20mm. I was all Denisoned out at the time and the thought of painting that pattern in a smaller scale was a little daunting.
Anyway I started this week with 4 jump off markers and the first 15 figures. Even though their quite a bit smaller than the 28's I stuck with the same palette of colours and painting style that I used for the larger figures and I'm pleased with the result. The AB figures helped mind they are lovely sculpts full of character and detail.

I could only dream to achieve such results on 28mm minis and 15mm would be just impossible.

Nicely done!
I like the JOPs too.
I've always thought paras with their equipment containers had an edge in sexy JOPs.

I mean for paras it makes sense to have some random gear in a field (and the equipment containers are nice and big) but for other troops it seems kinda odd to have stuff that should be back behind the Start Line used for the JOP, know what I mean?

Yep I get that James, with Paras you get away with it but Jops for a standard platoon its a little more difficult. The first thing that springs to mind for me would be stockpiled back packs where the platoon had just dropped their heavy gear before moving to the assault phase, but I'd be open to some more ideas if their out there.

I'd say that's a good starting point and for a bit of bulk have the pile next to a 15 cwt.in 20mm there're easy enough to get hold of an small enough to act as a marker,and used just about every where and by everyone.

That's a good idea, and it would also give an excuse to use those soft skins everybody seems to have but probably wouldn't be that close to the action in the real world.
I don't see a problem with a couple of figures to watch the kit, maybe some sick lame and lazy with a Bren to give covering fire should the assault fail and the troops have to make their way back to the JOP.

that's a cracking idea, did Hexeblocks go back as far as the Second World War? A burner and mess tins would be small mind even in 28 mil.

There are small stoves, but a favourite trick was to use a petrol tin with the side cut out a bit like a portable bbq it was easy to ditch if you have to bug out in a hurry.in the desert you just half fill with sand and bung on a little fuel job done. The scale your working in its the easiest solution both to build and paint and too be seen on a base.

Well I'm back and this small Para force for Chain of Command is finished. I've sorted them out into 3 Rifle sections a support section (Piats, 2"Mortar etc) a specialist section (Snipers, Ammo carriers, Radio Operators etc) and 6 "Big Men" on square bases so they can be easily seen on the table.
Most important thing is NO MORE DENISON hooray (Well for a while anyway)
