[XIII th C] Medieval 28mm "cathar" castle
« on: 12 June 2015, 10:36:04 AM »
Hi !

Here a medieval (XIII th C) "cathar / Occitan" castle , i think i could use it for Greece / Latin Empire / Crusaders castles too ...

90% scratch built , save windows and doors ...

Inspired from the "old castle" of Peyrepertuse ...

A lot of work to come , and a mountain (30 cm hight  :D ) to make it impregnable !

Another very impressive, professional-looking terrain build. How do you achieve the "smooth but pitted" effect on the plastered walls?

Lovely work, I especially like the plaster effect on the first keep/tower! Good to see the Occitan?Albigensian Crusade era getting some love! Please keep posting!

Well , the problem is ... my english language  :? I will try to explain ...

1) A "solid" and "workable" basic structure : carton-plume , cardboard , foamboard ... And i use a good carton-plume like Canson , wich is "water-proof" (There is water in white glue)
2) I glue a 3 mm (Or 5 mm) Depron and i engrave some places here and here (bricks , stones ...) ...
3) I cover with "pâte à modeler durcissante" (Ex : Giotto Plastiroc , my favourite) and let the engraved places ( and doors , windows , some details) uncovered ...
I let it dry one night ...

Then i sand it . And i (generously) undercoat with a GOOD acrylic paint (i use "Noir de Mars" from Liquitex)

It's take a lot pof time , but the result worth it ...

Now i think about a mouldind and selling ... A lot of work again !  But it's interesting work !!!!!

Oups i forgot an impotant point with the "pâte à modeler durcissante" (Hardening material !?) : you had to work it with some water !

Thanks, I get everything you're saying. "Carton-plume" is foamcore in English, by the way. "Pâte à modeler durcissante" seems to be air-drying modelling clay.

I use Liquitex Mars Black too, by the way. I'll never trust a person who uses Liquitex Ivory Black. Reprobates and scoundrels, the lot of 'em! :P

Liquitex Ivory Black : maybe for the oiling of antic gymnast ' s body ... but not for undercoat , sure  lol

Hi ! The next step !

After plastering ...

After sanding ...

After coating :

Some work to go !

To be continued ...

PS You will have noticed that I introduced a difference of additional level for the Bastion , built on an overhang, it gives some more of "epic" and finds itself in the reality in certain castles, as Aguilar it seems to me...
