Pulp Alley/Weird War AAR
« on: June 27, 2015, 10:56:31 AM »
We played another game of Pulp Alley the other night, at the club. A friend brought his brother along ,who hasn't gamed for years. He absolutely loved it and thought the PA ruleset was brilliant. It was a very combat driven game with only 1 'Plot point' plus a getaway plot point .
The premise was that it was nearing the end of the war. Teams from Russia, Germany and Britain were all racing to retrieve one of the Nazi 'Wonder weapons'. The action took place in the ruins of an unnamed town with the Leagues searching for the 'weapon'.
Each League had a Leader, a sidekick and two 'gangs/squads' of troops. As I said, the game was more combat driven than a normal PA game might be.

The board.

The squads set up.

Germans

Russians

British

The Escape plot point.

I'll try and get some more photos posted up.

Looks like a great game. I love that terrain and that boat looks doable.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!  Where's  the sub from!

Table looks awesome.  I'm hoping to do some weird war PA soon!

It's the smaller one from Brigade games. I'd love the bigger one but can't justify the size/expense. :(

Nice set-up!  :) I'm looking forward to the AAR.

Some more photos from the game.

The teams scramble to search the ruins for the weapon. Germans try to climb to a better position but fail the Peril.

Very quickly the British team discover the Nazis secret weapon 'Frankenstahl'. We decided that as a plot point, the team had to get a sample of the creatures blood. We also gave it stats as a Terror as well so it could activate at the end of the turn.

A squad of Paras sacrificed themselves to distract the beast whilst their leader, Dr Lazerus, sought to overcome the challenge.

Seeing the British team about to succeed, the Russians seek to ambush the Brits at the sub.

A nasty surprise awaits!

Part of the team get to the sub early to help support against the awaiting Russians. The Sidekick mans the main gun.

Meanwhile the Germans desperately rush to catch up and try and get their hands on the super serum.

Dr Lazerus deftly makes his way to his getaway sub.

A nasty firefight ensues!

A Molotov blast from the Soviet sidekick clears the deck of Allied soldiers. Luckily, the Dr has a way out and manages to unlock the sub and escapee. British team wins.

Like I've said, the game was much more combat driven. In hindsight, the board was too big and 'busy'. This prevented line of sight and enabled the Brits to get the objective and escape though the cost was heavy. I cannot recommend the PA rules highly enough.
