The Zombie Apocalypse hits Pulp Alley
« on: June 27, 2015, 08:08:11 PM »
The summer sun rises over a quiet suburb.

The breeze stirs the branches, but no birds sing...
We have been home-brewing a 'Zombie Apocalypse' mod for Pulp Alley.
If Pulp Alley is a tribute to the action adventure serials of the 30's, this project would be a love-letter to the B-Movies of the 50's & 60's.

It's too quiet.
This mod offers a real change of pace from regular Pulp Alley play.
The world has fallen apart and now survival is priority number one. This is a gritty setting and most definitely deadly for characters.

Cpt. Reynolds lost radio contact with HQ three days ago.
Since then he has been focused on keeping the remnants of Echo company alive.
These shots are from a play-test of our 'Outbreak' scenario.

Lt. Spencer had been eyeing this suburb since yesterday.
"This 'burb has some good pickings!" He has barely a squad left from his platoon. Now they fend for themselves.

Looks like some survivors holed-up on the edge of town.

All we need to do is avoid the 'rotters'. We might be able to save a couple of survivors AND get some supplies.

Captain! Sir! We got a zombie on our six!

Lieutenant! Horde, inbound at 12 o'clock!
Zombies and hordes spawn in a semi-random fashion making the job of collecting plot-points increasingly challenging.
Typically, by turn six, the mass of undead on the table is a significant challenge.

Cornered at the hardware store.
Lt. Spencer knows the best chance for his squad is to barricade the building and fight off the horde.
Buildings can be barricaded, spawn-points can be shut down and survivors can be recruited to replace lost league members.

It's a hard fight for the building.
The zombies get back up if you don't finish them properly!

Cpt. Reynold's squad is in dire trouble!
Surrounded by multiple hordes the troopers fall, only to rise again!!!
Hordes start small but grow as single zombies join the fray. Fallen characters and survivors will likely rise again as zombies.
Characters lost this way are removed from a league - but the opportunity to replace fallen members is always present.

One of Cpt. Reynold's boys has the goods.
As always the focus is on the plot points and in this case a Survivor, who has joined a league, lends a hand securing the plot point.

While nominally set in a Zombie Apocalypse, this mod could work well for a variety of post-apoc settings.

Thanks to the Vancouver Chinatown Playtest Team for their enthusiasm with this project.  8)

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

I'm pretty sure I've instructed you guys not to play any super-fun games while I'm not there.  You have some 'splainin' to do Mr.

That game looks triple sweet.  What a gas.

Project 'Z' is really coming along. By the time we sit down to play a game it's going to be a finely polished thing of beauty.

Thank you sir.  :)

Years ago I started on a 'zombie project', drawn by the romance of the idea, but I never did find a game that ticked all my boxes. I think this might just do the job. Hopefully I'll get some of the original minis out and painted.

Definitely one of those "It Lives!!!!" sorts of projects.
