Saunders of the River

Lt. Saunders R.N. had commandeered two civilian steamers and embarked his command for a crack at the notorious slaver Mustafa Phagg at his base on the Limpeckaa River , a turgid tributary of the Limpopo. We played it out on Saturday using Chris Peers DITDC rules.

That's a beautiful looking game. Out of curiosity, have you played those rules much? I'd love to hear your thoughts on them--especially on whether the rules can work around larger than life hero-types, and what size forces they can handle. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Arundel, the system uses alternate unit activation but all shooting is simultaneous with no saving throws , so it can be fast and bloody. The leaders get three " attendants " who die before him so that's three " saves " for him only. If you type in ITDC or Darkest Africa into the Search button at the top of the page it will give access to a good thread.

Hi, Randy, we managed 2 games , the Navel brigade won the first as we gave each boat a gun , which dominated the natives. On the 2nd game we dropped the guns and the Slavers took the upper hand as the tars  6 men sections proved fragile.

It was hard to scroll down and look at the pictures - I was laughing too hard at the names, especially the tributary!  And then, when I did scroll, I got a bit seasick with the inverted images - perhaps intentional in a naval oriented event?
