Foundry Afghans at Maiwand (Many More Pics Added 14.07.15)
« on: July 06, 2015, 09:53:54 PM »
Hi,

I've been working on this for a little while now and although this one features the Afghans at the Battle Maiwand it's the Brits that I have painted and ready but I thought I'd try it out with a few Foundry Afghans first. For anyone who isn't familiar with the battle, the 66th Regiment of Foot was just about wiped out trying to save the colours in what turned into a terrible rout only to be avenged later by General Roberts at the Battle of Kandahar.

Anyway, I digress...

The first pic is of the 'diorama' of the Afghan Ghazi Charge and the rest are tasters of many more Afghans that you can see on my Shooting Leave Blog here:

http://allthebrave.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/my-god-maiwand-afghans.html

Please take a look. as i say there are a load of pics of the Afghan's there to view.

Very well painted figures.
I love your shading, prefect.
I think Foundry's Afghans are some of their best figures.
I have some, even some painted. lol
Hope to see more of your figures.

PS I see on your blog you are quite taken by the Iron Duke figures.
So am I. Have purchased about seven packs and am waiting for the next group.
Then a large order. I have a fairly large collection of Foundry IM figures, but ID are just too good to pass up.

Thank you for your kind words  :)

The Second Afghan War is a growing concern, as they say, and a conflict that I'm very interested in (just reading about General Roberts is interesting enough!) so there will be plenty more pics coming your way- soon I hope! I also bought two packs of each unit's skirmishers as I'll be mounting them on sabot bases will be using the mini's for both Regimental actions and Skirmish games.

Very much so, I've got full regiments of 24 of all the units that Mike as released thus far(Ensigns to be added as soon as they're released) as well as the Europeans fighting to protect their property from their Maori range. I love the animation that Paul Hicks has managed to get and the aggressive stance of the models certainly suits the kind of combats that they were involved in.

Lovely skin colours , Darrell , I particularly like the faded colours on the clothing, looks like they,ve been worn in the field for some time , and allows the figure to " blend " into the background, very hard to get right. Like Randy I love the Foundry North West Frontier figures , some of the best they have , please keep posting.

I've always loved the Foundry Pathans--even after all this time they are still one of the best ranges for the period. You've done a lovely job on them!

Marvelous work on what, as everyone else has pointed out already, are a very lovely set of sculpts.

I've commented on these figures before, but always worth another look. Lovely painting Darrell, the photography and background really brings them to life. Its something I wish I could devote more time to, you seem to certainly have it sorted :-*

Well, my photography skills aren't that great. I'm staying with a mate who's a professional over the Claymore show period so he can show me how to go on with the camera I have. I usually just pop in on automatic and point! Though I've recently been messing around with the white balance- ooh! Adventurous!  lol

lol Thanks Lon. I discovered six more that I hadn't painted (old WF metal)- then it's on to the Studio Miniatures and Artizan Designs Afghans but although both ranges are very good, I think the Perry sculpts for Foundry are still the best out of a very good lot.

What I need now is to find some shields that are right that I can use for the Artizan Swordsmen- any ideas?

Darrell.

Thanks, here's the last of the batch that I have painted at present- from my Shooting Leave Blog here:

http://allthebrave.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/a-painting-mutiny-dilemma.html

Please note that I've still got to add the Pashtun script to the banner and then varnish- it won't be shiny when it's complete.

Thanks for looking folks,

Darrell.
