Alas, my arrangements are really messed up… I shall be in Scotland, dropping my lad off at St Andrews Uni, that weekend. So I'm going to miss the last Kelham Hall show.  :(

Ah, there's always next time and you cannot miss dropping your son off at St Andrews- congrats to him for getting in to such an esteemed establishment  8).

One technique I use sometimes with the dip (especially on figures with pale clothing), which is worth bearing in mind... It's less laborious than adding a highlight...

As the dip begins to get 'tacky', try 'drybrushing' the figure with a brush dampened with white spirit - it 'lifts' the dip off the high points of the figure, restoring the original colour and effectively 'adding' a highlight.

Yep, I read your articles in WSS and tried that and still wasn't working for me and so had to apply a highlight the old fashioned way with paint. Personally I just think you have mastered how to apply army painter in just the right way. I think it requires practice and isn't what many think of simply slapping on the dip and hey presto a very fine looking figure. Simply put painting in all it's forms requires practice to get good results.

Thank you. Yes, very pleased with the lad - and he's going to be reading Classics, so I am very envious - I never got the chance to do Latin or Greek.
