Robin Hood and his Merry Men
« on: 08 August 2015, 03:14:11 AM »

Wizard, Apprentice, Ranger, Templar, 2 bowmen

You could also swap out the Apprentice and add 4 more bowmen for a very heavy range combat warband.

The Templar figure is a grenadier sculpt.  All the others are from GW.  Robin Hood (is aka as "Bertrand The Brigand" in GW speak).  They sold 3 figures in the pack, but unfortunately mine just had Bertrand and the monk.  I am trying to get the other missing sculpt through GW.

Great idea; it seems Frostgrave brings out all merry bands in history and fantasy eh? :)

I am trying to get the other missing sculpt through GW.

Good luck with that; these figures have been OOP for many years and GW not only stopped their bits service, but support for the entire WHFB line... ::)

I think you'll have better luck scouring the Bazaar here and/or Ebay...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Try it. You'll probably wipe the opposition.

I have a near identical warband lined up on my painting table. :D

I shall look to this thread for inspiration.

All painted up, well sort of.  I still have a few odds and ends to paint.

I just started painting again and MY eyes apparently aren't as good as they used to be.  Arrg.  I use an OTT-Lite which helps, but I have a real tough time with getting the figures eyes right.  Any good advice?

Also I am not a fan of my bases.  I think i need a mixture of gravel that isn't the same size.

Those all look very good to me, perhaps just neaten up the edge of the bases and add either some flock or a bit of snow if you are feeling wintery.

I normally use a mix of several sizes of gravel and sand, mixed well in a tub.

The mix consists of mostly fine, sieved sand from a building site (a single handfull goes a long, long way for our purposes), really fine flakes of shale (from the old GW basing set, which contained a number of tubs of very fine, fine and course pieces of shale), and some (relatively) larger pieces of gravel mixed in (from both the garden and the medium GW tub I mentioned).

Just remember that the basing material you used scales down as very large gravel or small boulders, when comparing it to the miniatures.

Even if you'd only mix in some sand, the result would already be a lot more realistic... :)

+++EDIT+++ Nice PJs btw... ;)

Nice band of Not So Merry Chaps.
Just add a small tuft or two to the bases and they will be just fine.

Nice paintjob, love the little john, I love GWs version, but his replacement loooks like he fits right in, and is very cool in his own right

Stellar painjob on that first bowman though, looks completly different than the bare mini  ;)

Yeah you got to like how a figure can look different with makeup on.  :D

My next group is going to have a Spanish flavor to them.  It is talking a little longer to track down the figures I want.

Nice work.

The idea of using it for Robin Hood based games looks interesting, but I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to Robin Hood based games  :D
