Next question for my new project - I need pictures of middle-European (NOT English) gentlemen in hunting clothing around 1840 (give or take 10 years). Ideally the sort of clothing that mught be worn while hunting in German forests .... This is so that I can convert/sculpt character figures. Can anyone help?

That would be telling, but Karsten and I had a long chat bouncing ideas off each other for our respective projects. Lets just say that these hunters will have to be well armed and not just with conventional hunting weapons and ammunition .....

Between you you have now conjured up an insane image in my head. Gentry in makeshift helmets and breastplates akin to Ned Kelly with breeches and brogues or even lederhosen

Usually the german hunters wore those green hunting suits with bavarian hats and golf trousers!

a second thought traditional local costumes , but hard to find any. [there might be some montenegros and romanians by tiger miniatures but it is something that included in very future plans, I don;t recommend to use any greek evzones this time, they are very far away]

If Central Europe includes Transylvania or similar the only one I can think is a mini of Blue Moon's Romanian villagers which has one old veteran, but I find it impossible to convert this mini to a hunter!

a tip of conversion, if you can: use a gentleman with gun/rifle if possible in suit and golf trousers and headswap with the eurekas head coming from bavarian clockwork mechanics. [If not in golf trousers and stockings, military figures with gaiters can be used, but you have to file down extra pouches etc!]

Hmm, I have been looking for some gentlemen in country casuals/hunting attire too for a Scottish Highlands game involving the abduction of HRH (Guad Bless 'Er) from Balmoral with John Brown, Highlanders. Prussians spies etc.

So far I have found the following:

Copplestone Castings : Darkest Africa hunters have a nice figure in deerstalker.
Also from his High Adventure range there is a nice chap in flat cap and plus fours with shotgun.Maybe a bit 20's/30's though.
EM4 have tow nice figures in thier Dunwich detectives range, one in flat cap with shotgun smoking a pipe and another with shotgun and shooting jacket with shotgun and flat cap.
Rafm have an old figure in the COC range of a figure in country wear with shotgun and dog.

I guess all the above look more British that European and are distinctly more late Victorian/Edwardian.

What about the Westwind Vampire Wars "Wolfen Jaeger"?
They are definately European although not really gentlemen in appearance?

Alas, he is standing over a killed lion! maybe you can use it! [and find some use for the other figures!] the good thing is that is a separate casting. you may place his leg over a small rock/trunk/wood.

I know it is set too early for what you are planning Bullshot, but this topic has given me a mental image of The Brothers Grimm. (Not a great movie, but might be worth watching for some scenery and costume tips - Gilliam never lets you down with them, even if the script gets butchered by the studio.)

Dammit Rob - you have found me out! Brothers Grimm is one of the inspirations for the game (plus the usual vamps, werewolves, etc). Think of Gothic Horror meats Steampunk (like like Wyrd Games' Malifaux setting but set in old Europe during the first half of the 19th century). Old folk tales like those of the Brothers Grimm have to be an essential part of the background. It all comes from chatting with Dewbakuk about Deadlands and looking at Vikotnik's faerie figures last weekend ....

Thanks for the ideas Nick I want my heroes to be a mix of English and European characters, having adventures in both cities and forests of Old Europe. I do like the appearance of the Wolfen Jaeger and will probably base some figures on them. However, since I don't need many figures I also want to go up a scale if I can find sufficient suitable figures - i.e. going for about 32mm, which will allow me to use some of the nice sculpts from Wyrd and other manufacturers (one of my reasons for doing this project is that I to get to paint some larger figures and improve my conversion/sculpting skills).

This German junker was an avid hunter and most likely set the standards fro apparel and such for a few years.

Oak leaf carving, gemsbock hair tufts, deer horns galore.
