The Hobbit - Heroes and Goblins
« on: 15 August 2015, 03:08:32 PM »
Callum (grandson aged eight) and I have been playing a lot of Games Workshop's "The Hobbit" and having great fun.  The rules are deceptively simple.  Problem solving, planning, strategy/tactics and decision making are very important.  We go every Sunday to the "Warhammer" shop for tutorials and games.

Anyway, our figures are all painted now

The Heroes

The Goblin King, Grynnah, Captain and Scribe

The Goblin Horde

The scenarios included special rules that deserved a figure that was not included in the set.  So a spare Moria Goblin Archer became a drummer. The drum is from scrap sprue and the drumsticks are left over skeleton bits from when Callum's uncle had a skeleton army.

Another had Bilbo put on the ring and become invisible.  In the shop they had a nice clear figure of Bilbo that is no longer available.  I had a look on eBay and saw the very high price that they sell for.  Callum was disappointed so I made him our version of "Invisible Bilbo" for a lot less than buying one!

Nice work. I do like the sbg rules easy to teach with enough depth to them, thanks for sharing

Very nice.  GW did actually do a very limited edition base that just had footprints in it as an invisible frodo, as well as the clear resin one
