Reading accounts of combat in modern Afghanistan, they talk about patrolling in 8' high corn, so 2" for 28mm would be visually good, if no quite accurate.

Can easily be shortened a bit, if need be. I have 500 of those JTT stalks that I need to get sorted...  lol
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

As you're working on this on a weekly basis, is it a serial project?

And yeah, I know that was corny  ;) :D

Great work on the fields  8)

I guess I need to order some for myself, I know I shouldn't but...

Anyone knows if there are similar products available for sugar canes?

Oh, don't you worry the video is well into development and it is specifically geared to your warped tastes. ;)

An absolute visual treat, they blend nicely into the board and using irregular shapes has worked really well.

How functional are the field pieces for having troops entering the fields - will that 'corn' material stand the weight of figures?

There are a few gaps to place several figures around the edges of the fields, but no room to allow figures between the stalks. The stalks are quite sturdy, but I wouldn't try to balance any figures on top. I am not precious about placing figures within terrain pieces, if they are crossing the field or occupying it then it will be noted in the game and the figures will be removed from the table until they reappear.

Im thinking of doing some on separate bases that will allow me to remove them without taking too much away visually.

You are right folks, HO seems very small, I'll choose O scale too.

I only play skirmish, I was thinking of "planting" the plants in separate rows? So rows could be moved inside the field, or temporarily removed from the field, to place individual miniatures when they enter the field (as we also do with tree models in forests).

Lovely stuff.  Might nab this idea for my new ACW stuff.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

2" IMO.
Absolutely, I've put up some photographs on the Galloping Major Ltd Wargames facebook page - check them out (can't figure out how to get them onto here right now).

I picked these up from Silent Invader some time ago and as they are individually based it does make life easier for positioning them for figure access.

It does not look as pretty, though.....
