1950's cop cars?
« on: 22 August 2015, 10:10:12 AM »
Guys I have been looking for a 1950's American police car for ages. Has to suit 25-28mm figs so 1/48 to 1/56. Perhaps even 1/64 at a pinch. I saw one in Wonderland but of course when I went to get in it was gone. So I know they are out there.
I have had no luck on Ebay so of course I am coming to you guys for help.

Try the Sheriff from the Disney/Pixar Cars range of 1/55 diecasts.  Perfectly scaled for 28mm: you just have to paint out the eyes on the windshield.
Back from the dead, almost.

As Steve has mentioned the Pixar Cars range, take a look at this thread:

Constable Bertrand has made extensive use of them in his Post-Apoc project to very good effect.
There may be more in the range that you could use.

I too had been looking for similar (1950s Police car) but managed to pick one up 2 weeks ago on Route 66 while on holiday in the States. It is slightly bigger than I would have liked, but I can live with it. It is 5" (12cm) long, 2" (5cm) wide & 1.5" (4cm) high. Underneath it says, '1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. 1/40th. Made in China' and 'KINSMART' which I take to be the maker. It set me back $ 8.00 (about £5). I have not looked on E-Bay but it might be obtainable there, or on the internet.

It's possible to build something similar to these in card just depending on how much spare time you've got.
To fill the gap until you find something more suitable.

Another workaround is that if you can just find a boring old sedan in the right sort of shape and era, you can at least repaint it to look like a cop car.

Look for the Marx "Cars of the Future" on Ebay.  Very 50s in appearance.

Beat me to it. lol lol Thanks :D

If your happy with 1/56 then pixar is great. The doc Hudson and sheriffs cars are perfect and cheaper than 1:43 models. The kombi is a tad small but still good too.

If you want more 1:48 perhaps go hunting for Maxx cars of the future, but they will be more expensive.

But if Mark is offering to make you some, I'd go that route, :D not route 66 ;) lol

That is genius! The Little Fish have a few of these guys; they get a fair bit of play usage at the moment but when they've grown out of them I now have  a great idea for recycling them into something for the tabletop.

Thanks guys i am going with the Disney option. I already have some of the other Cars I got in a sale. They look ok with a paintjob but have cast mouths in the bumper.

Green stuff and plasticard are your friend with this one.

Check out Constable Bertrand's thread to see what he did with them:

Correct.

You need to be selective in which ones you get. Some have very little caricature features and some have heaps. Sally the Porsche is completely unusable from a car shape perspective, way too "cute". Others like mater have huge face, and some have cast metal eye Windows. Cast you eye at those aspects before you say "ooh a '75... " it will save you $, trust me.

Some have plastic front window inserts which have no eyes sculpted on them, this is great. The Daytona King had a sculpted metal windshield which is a pain to work with. :( Unless in your universe more cars had split Windows ;)

Best of luck

Cheers
Matt
