I *think* they are they are supposed to be Askaris employed by 1930-ies Germans. They wear Africa corps uniforms. I suppose they are not historical, but fictional.

They are Italian askaris . I cannot tell you whether ethiopian or eritrean.

I will check and advise.

However you can use as fictionals.
To my sense only the rifles could tell. Can you recognise the rifle maker?

Libyan or Eritrean Askaris that could be found in Ethiopia during the Invasion of Abyssinia an/or the Middle-East fighting alongside their masters the Italians and Germans.

Best wishes,

there is a better book than Osprey, an Italian edition [but has english captions]
I think it is available on the net.

I will advise!

Sorry for the delay.

For those interesting in the Italian colonial uniforms, as I advised you there is a better than Osprey book,

"Le Guerre Coloniali Italiane 1885-1900
by R. Ruggeri "
it is out of print, but,  the good news is here. warflag has something on the net:

the images are available here:

Are you asking about the green colour (which is not paint, it's a picture of the 'greens' from Brigade Games' site) - or are you asking how they should be painted?  ???

When I first glanced at that picture, I thought these Askari were either late WW1 Belgian Congo Askari or British Kings African Rifles.  The reason I thought that was because of the bare feet below the leg wraps and because of uniforms that look like they should be painted kakhi.  The German and French Askari wore shoes, didn't they?  I was somewhat reminded of the post WW1 Kenyan police that appeared in the "Heat of the Sun" detective series, though their shirts were dark blue.  Here is a bigger picture from the Brigade Games Historical "The Ends of the Earth" line:

http://www.brigadegames.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BG-EET050&Category_Code=BGHMEE&Product_Count=35

Having looked at that bigger picture, I noticed the tassel on the fez.  That could be filed off, though.  If those figures were intended to be Italian Askari, as some of you state, I'll take your word for it.  But given the placement in the Brigade Games line, it seems that BG intended them as some sort of "generic" askari.  I personally would be comfortable using them in late WW1 or post WW1 Congo or East Africa, but that's because I'm not a stickler for perfect uniforms, and don't know these particular uniforms.  Will search the Brigade Games Yahoo Group for past messages on these figures...

From the links to Italian Askari pictures that you posted in Colonial Adventures, I totally see your point!
