The Occulus Gambit Part I - AOS AAR
« on: August 28, 2015, 05:37:12 AM »
The Realm Gate of Khar Gaurach spurted hellishly green warpfire from it.  By dribbles, mewling chaos monstrosities fell out of it, falling like saliva from a comatose mouth they pooled on the hard copper impregnated dirt of Khar Gaurach before taking their shape in the mortal world, leaping off spewing fire in all directions.

The report came back to Lord Celestant Singhan Hammerfall from his Prosecutors.  The gate was supposed to be closed to the forces of Chaos.

There was a ward shrine in a valley shielded by the Hashut Mountains that warded the gate.  Soon the answer was learned as Prosecutors came back from there.  The Numinus Occulum had been attacked.  The building housing the powerful artifact was shattered and a flaming shield walled the thing off.  It probably was disrupting the magic that kept the gate closed.

Singhan would take a force and smash down the magic preventing the Occulum from keeping the Realmgate closed.

He marched his forces through the valley to the Singing Plateau where the Occulum resided.

The trees, withering when he left, were all dead.  Many had runes carved into them now, as did many of the rocks.  There were patches of ground that were singed black from whatever powers had been unleashed to destroy the building and the Eternals that were left to guard it.

The Prosecutors surged ahead, when one of the singed areas open beneath them breathing a large gout of green flame up at the winged warriors.  Two of them came crashing to earth, shattering bones on the hard metallic soil.

The other streaked past.

Singhan looked up to see a rune on one of the trees glow menacingly and then fade, leaving a trail of smoke drifting up where it had been.

He ordered the Judicators to move up and fire and the hellish creature emerging through the ground.

Their might arms pulled back on the ropes attached to the metal bows, releasing giant steel arrows towards the creature.

The arrows sunk in, one after another, and the creature deflated and sunk back into the hole from which it had emerged and the hole glowed with burning warpfire.

Singhan charged forward himself and with his fell hammer beat against the magical wall encasing the Occulum.

Sparks of lightning spread through the flames as the hammer rose and fell.  The surviving Prosecutor threw his hammers as the wall and they exploded in lightning too.  Where the lightning surged the flames weakened until they finally sputtered out.

Barely did the flames die down than the echoing sound of metal on metal came down the valley. Singhan looked up and could see the shinning armour of the Chaos Warriors in the distance.

In this scenario the chaos player placed all of the terrain objects around the objective, which was the Nimnomiconus Occulunorious or whatever it is called.  Four of the objects contained bound spells which, when anyone moved within 6" of it tried to summon a unit of Pink Horrors.  Another object is actually a beast hiding in the ground.  We used the exalted horror for stats except it couldn't move.

This was to be a preliminary game for the second battle, report following on that, so it wasn't really supposed to be all that tough for the Eternals.

They passed by one of the spells, which, needing a 6+ on 2d6, failed to work, but the ground beast worked a treat, frying two prosecutors.

The goal was to smash down the invisible flaming wall around the Ocullotransmogracom or whatever it is.  It had 8 wounds and a 4+ save, so it wasn't too hard to damage.  What the Sigmarite player didn't know was that once the wall was damaged, on the next turn the game would end on a 6, on a 5+ on the following turn and so on.

As it turned out the Lord Celestant was able to inflict 6 wounds in one turn and the Judicators and the remaining Prosecutor finished it off.
