GHQ WW1 British Battlecruisers
« on: 28 August 2015, 05:43:02 PM »

http://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/ghq-british-ww1-battlecruisers.html

A bit of a guilty pleasure show off post today highlighting some WW1 British Battlecruisers I painted up on my recent trip to Normandy.

I do love these models but I'm not too happy with the recent price rise £12 a ship is a lot of dosh when you're buying in bulk. Luckily WTJ haven't put their prices up !

Very nice, I went and had a look at the others on your super blog too. Something I would very much like to try out myself but being a skin flint I ponder if the cheaper Skytrex/Heroics & Ros etc. would be enough - I doubt it, the GHQ ones are the business.

What I really fancy is a decade earlier and the Russo Japanese war but pictureless website listings are not conducive with me parting with my cash.

I look forward to seeing more

Very nice indeed Ken. There seem to be some decent sets of rules about so why are you writing your own?

Hi Svenn,

Agree regarding the price,  have a look at the WTJ range of Pre Dreadnoughts, they have nearly as much detail and are often close to half the price, might be what you're looking for.

Hi Peter, hope your keeping well.

There are many reasons but the main one is I wrote a set of WW2 Naval rules 25 or so years ago which we have used up in Leeds largely unchanged since then. It will mostly be the same players so although there will be some minor changes in mechanisms those familiar with the WW2 rules can pick up the WW1 rules very quickly.

It's become a habit now, writing rules, there are very few sets of commercial rules I play and hardly any of those remain unmodified. Off the top of my head unchanged we play If the Lord Spares us by toofatlardies for WW1 Palestine, Johnny Reb 2 for ACW (although for years I have wanted to change the messy charge sequence), British Grenadier and the SYW version of General de Brigade whose name escapes me. Home Brew rules for, Nap Naval, WW1 Naval, WW2 Naval, SCW, WW2 Desert, 6mm WW2, Vietnam, Ancients, ECW.

I tried GQ but it didn't work for me and I have read through a number of WW1 Naval rule sets and nothing took my fancy. I plan to publish mine on the blog at some stage to see how they go down.

Regards, Ken

Svenn, Ken is right about WTJ. That company has been notable for years for 1:3000 pre-dreadnoughts. But the new 3d plastic printing in 4 different scales, including my favorite 1:2400 scale, is fabulous. Everything I've ordered from WTJ has been stunningly beautiful, and I have models from 5 other makers. I'm with you about buying minis with no photo of the particular model on the website. However, I've seen enough WTJ by now that I utterly and completely trust the product. Order a few WTJ models for a pre-dreadnought battle. You won't be disappointed.
