A good read, mate.
You certainly have a knack for this kind of thing.

Gonna have to check out Johnny's backstory now.....
 ;)

Thanks a lot Paul, I enjoy 'cooking' up a story as I play, and it's nice to know people appreciate reading them, so more will follow  :D.

Thanks a lot mate, really happy you enjoyed the story.

Yes, I am indeed, but I believe it was posted by Ed and not sure it was the whole story line, I will try to dig them up and send you the links.

Would appreciate it, they are a good read and describe the campaign system well. My plan is to start a  similar thing when I get back home, but as that is 3 months away I will almost certainly have changed my mind 3 or 4 times by then.

If you haven't seen it, I have sent you a PM with all the links from the previous campaign, in chronological order too  :D.

(Deep voiced intro, glints in black and white of people in old west attire, riding, shooting and fighting, interspersed with howls, many tentacles and shrieks and blood and gore)

The Civil War is over, but the four years of bloodshed where brother stood against brother has left scars running much, much deeper. Somewhere a door that was better left locked and bolted opened, and the nightmares and the dark fairy tales became real. In the vast nation, shadows can take on substance and monsters prowl in the night time hours, an almost perpetual dusk reigns and mankind is the prey. THIS is...

TALES FROM THE TWILIGHT TRAIL!!!!! (suspenseful music and fadeout)

Much fun was had, and these were the Special Rules for the scenario:

If John succeeded on 2D vs Outdoorsman he would locate Eduardo in a building on a 5-6. Otherwise only on a 6.

Each turn I rolled a D6, if that came up 6, the three Imps and the gallows would enter play in the centre of the table.

At start of a basic scenario, the visibility is ALWAYS 24" as it's getting towards dusk, but each time the main character fails to activate that is lessened by 1D6, until you have only 6" visibility.

IMPS

For gaming purposes they have the same abilities as humans, ie 2-4 in Grit, Shooting, Fighting, People, Horsemanship and Outdoorsman with the following special abilities.

Life Sense- Unlimited line of sight, can't see through walls of course, but feel living beings.

Unnatural Life- Each time they are hit, the results can only be Carry On OR Stunned (OOF/ OD counts as Stunned)

Ghost Ammo- They are NEVER subjects to running out of bullets, ignore 1's for ammo.

Weakness- a special 'thing' (in this case, the badges) are what binds them to this world. First there must be a way of finding out their weakness (Sorcery works) and then a matter of destroying it.

I decided on this method: If a model successfully hits and is aware of the weakness, roll a D6, on a 6 the badge is hit and destroyed. Ignore all other results as it's the badge that counts now! If a model doesn't move and fires ONE shot only they can gain +1 Shooting and on a successful hit score a badge result on a 5-6 instead, simulating the extra care taken.

Each time John shot at an Imp he would be allowed to test his Grit, but only the base without Strong Willed this time as his magical powers are only slowly awakening.

John Stormcrow earned another XP in my simple system and I put it into a much needed Fighting this time, here are his stats and gear:

Grit 4 (5)
Shooting 4
Fighting 4
People 3
Horsemanship 3
Outdoorsman 4

Six shooter
Knife
Ghost Winchester (never runs out of bullets!!)
Horse (Quality 4)

Next episode I think he needs to get some supernatural tutoring, stay tuned  :D

I like the plot. Undead Lawman that are bound to their badges by doing evil things in lifetime (my guess ;) ).

Excellent again - good story and that John Stormcrow is a real hard dude.

He is becoming one of my favourite hero's, hope he stays alive.

Are the buildings sarissa, how do you feel about MDF v home build, they seem to build quickly and so you can get on with the show straight away. I have home built western stuff in the past but slowly, but knocked out 15 paper buildings in a few nights. I intend to revisit western gaming in the year future but not sure which way to go with the scenery.

Please keep the reports coming.  :)

Thanks for the kind words Vagabond, and glad you enjoy the series. Being somewhat 'tv-gritty' in essence than 'real grit' I decided to employ a variant of the Star rules. When a Star is hit they can roll their Grit and essentially 'soak' the damage, depending on successes 'Ah, 'tis but a scratch...'. But instead of having it reset and available each episode, the tweak is that if you have to subtract a die it stays for the remainder of the series, so eventually you WILL run out of Luck. A means to increase chances of survival, but of limited uses. I have already lost one die due to the firefight in the saloon, when the sheriff scored 'Head shot, Obviously Dead' and I invoked Star Quality which took it all down to a miss but lost one die due to the 6 rolled.

Most of my buildings are Sarissa, the saloon, sheriff's office and bank are from Battle Flag. Personally, I have never looked back!!!! I think MDF is brilliant, it's affordable, light weight, sturdy, fairly easy to put together, look good on the table, easy to store (keep mine in cardboard boxes) and I find especially the old west ones perfectly acceptable to put in play without even painting. I started out with card crafted buildings (Whitewash City) and although I have some for modern era, I have replaced all my old west stuff with MDF and will slowly do so with everything else. I am not very talented in scratch building and haven't got much spare time, so the less time I have to spend building stuff before playing, the better. Although I do enjoy putting the kits together.

I think the main advantage to the MDF buildings is that they allow very easy access for play inside, so I have some bits and bobs in resin (shop interior, furniture, book cases etc) from Frontline Wargames which are very reasonably priced and looks nice.

This is exactly why I am planning to build up a Collection of mdf-stuff for most of my gaming-eras. Price and accessabilty can only be matched by scratch-Building and/or very fiddly paper-craft. That, and my gaming room, the garage attic, is not sufficietly in-door (un-insulated), so paper Buildings Warp up on me, and I simply cannot be bothered about spending hours of cleaning up and painting much more expensive resin Buildings.

What (and from where) are those 'Star' rules, please? I realized that I own an older (then free) copy of Six Gun Sound, but it only has 3 characterstics, and no advancement system.
