Cheaper Judge Dredd miniatures?
« on: 02 September 2015, 08:42:04 PM »
I was thinking about getting into the Judge Dredd miniatures game but I'm slightly put off by the prohibitively expensive Warlord/Mongoose models, which at five pounds a pop (in the UK) just seems slightly too much. Short of scouring ebay, does anyone know of any retailers who sell them a bit cheaper?

Was it specifically Judges that you wanted? For most of the other gangs, you could use a variety of miniatures that can be found cheaply elsewhere.

You could try 15mm.  I used some Khurasan miniature zebra kill team for my judges.

Buying the boxed sets does work out a bit cheaper than buying individual models.

Element Games in the UK offer 10% off the Warlord/Mongoose range

http://elementgames.co.uk/wargames-and-miniatures/wargames-and-miniatures-by-manufacturer/warlord-games/judge-dread

Wargames Foundry do a range of 2000AD minis that you may find a little cheaper.

Alternatives:

Wargames Foundry (again) Street Violence range  Nice minis, cost is £12 for 5 figures.  Good for weird and wonderful gangs.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/street-violence/

East Riding Miniatures Corporate Wars range  Nice solid minis.  Has a line of not-Judges/futuristic police and gangers, assassins and corporates.  Cost is £1.25 each or £7 for a pack of 7 minis.

Copplestone Castings Future Wars range  Lovely sculpts and a range of subjects.  Cost is £8.50 for 5 figures.

http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW

eM-4/Moonraker Miniatures Future Wars range - older sculpts , also by Mark Copplestone.  Figures are £1.50 each.  Slightly confusingly, these are available from two sites (same company though)

You could try the 'Law Officers' from the old Laserburn sci-fi range available from 15mm.co.uk

Seeing that Mega-Cities around the world - and on the Moon - had variations on the uniform, Judges based on military troops with helmets (and ideally kneepads) could be used.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I had my eye on the Copplestone future war range, although I've heard that they're a little small compared to the Mongoose/Warlord Dredd models - has anyone tried them out?

There were a few Judges in the Indyclix set years back. I don't recall whom or how many, but I think there were also the 4 dark judges as well.

I am going to use these:

The old Alpha Forge range now produced by Johnny Lauck (ex MegaMinis). The security team in the red armour make great proxy judges and are close enough to be easily recognisable. The rest make a wonderful assortment of gangers.
I am on the lookout for a cheap copy of the Rulebook now.

The figures are bizarrely available currently as an "add on" with the Car Combat Kickstarter;

You know? With the eagles on the helmet and shoulder pad, you could try REALLY going far afield.

How about...

Depending on your bitbox, how about making your own Judges?
I made mine using some old I-Kore and Celtos minis ;)

Yet ANOTHER though - Games Workshop minis!

Dark Eldar 40k Wytches as gangers (10 for £18), or Dark Hellions as Sky Surfers (5 for £15.50) .  Possibly Reaver jetbikes as a biker gang (3 for £24)

Empire Flagellants from Warhammer Fantasy Battle mixed with 40k Cadian troops  for demonic cultists, or just buy the flagellants and pick up some weapons/weapon arms bits from eBay.

Cadians or Catachans as Citi-Def - 10 for £18.  Enough weapons left over to arm the flagellants above!

Mantic Games - Zombie Horde!!!

I think that you can use any appropriate range of models, but for specific characters with their likenesses you will have to resort to Mongoose or Foundry.

Hasslefree's Ekaterina figure looks more than a little like Olivia Thirlby's Judge Anderson from the recent Dredd film...
