A New Pirate boardgame with 28mm figures...from Spain!
« on: November 05, 2008, 10:23:44 AM »

Well, as a Spaniard I'm very proud to introduce you a new boardgame with figures made entirely by Spanish people. I'm very impresed by the quality and the original idea of the game: Ron&Bones (Rum&Bones)

It's a skirmish game mixing dice mechanism, cards and a board who reproduce a pirate ship deck. The essential of the game is the close combat using the different weapons, tactics and special rules (with a intense sense of humour...)

The game inselft will be available next month but there are a few miniatures available now.

You will find the web of the game (by the moment only a introduce...please put on the loudspeakers!) here:
http://www.ronandbones.com/

and the online shop here:
http://www.taleofwar.com/tienda/

And the figures and card photos (spanish language only, sorry) here:

Some great looking figures there! Any idea how they compare to other 28's?

Ooh, just seen the price per figure....... I don't mind paying more for "character" figs that a company isn't going to sell multiples of, but not that much.

The size is very similar to GW, perhaps a little but no too much big that the Foundry Pirates. Imho it's perfect mix the ranges. Obviously the Sloot Gunner or Paul Ancla are big figures.

there's other small like Octavius the little;

or Pier del Mocho

For reference please note that the bases of the figures have all the same size.

Regarding the price...I'm thinking the same, but note that the prices are the same that have the GW metal figures here in Spain  :(
Also note that the cost include the cards.

In any case it's good to point it !

They look very "paintable"  :)

As I don't read or speak Spanish, what are the shipping costs to the UK?

Yeah, but I won't buy metal GW at full price either.

Still very nice figs though.

Superb, dynamic, creative miniatures with a nice whimsical touch - just great and I must have them for my pirate collection!  :-*

But not for 9,- EUR a piece!  :'(

Plus p&p from Spain!? Good luck for their sales ... The orientation at GW prices is the wrong way imho; look at Gamezone miniatures from Spain with a much nicer price structure and at least as much sculpting talent as GW, if not better!

What a pity.

It looks like the figs are produced by Tales of War, which I have found to be big for my pirate mix of Foundry, Black Cat Bases, Reaper and Black Scorpion.

Great loooking figs, and I hope to see an American distributor!

And, yea.  9E for figs, thats alot of beer money!

For some reason they remind me of characters from Asterix the Gaul - not designed by Uderzo, are they?

I have to say they're not to my tastes at all - way too cartoony and fantastical to mix with my existing pirate collection.

And at that price, that's a good thing.  ;)

Not on the Tale of War portion of Cool Mini or Not yet...

So maybe there is hope that someone will have it over here!..

I love the 'cartoony-ish' of the figs.... :-*

A couple of them go a bit too far for me, but most of them are great. I especially like these two.

As I don't read or speak Spanish, what are the shipping costs to the UK?

The website doesn't seem too clear about international shipping - I took a mini through the process and it offered me first class postage for 6 euros, which I guess should cover Europe, or second class for 4 euros. There's an English language option on the left of the home page.

Tale of War do some gorgeous fairy-tale based minis (Tale Revision) as well - if you can find a role for Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Peter Pan or a particularly grim Bogeyman on your tabletop !
