Classic bowler-hatted bankers?
« on: 16 September 2015, 08:38:38 PM »
Was thinking of picking up the Warlord Captain Mainwaring civilian version, but I was wondering: Are there any other substitutes for the iconic bowler-hatted British banker type?

I thought there might have been one by Artizan, but I guess I was wrong.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

You don't like Mr Peregrine or Terrance, then?

Artizan also has a John Steed lookalike, with bowler and brolly, in the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang range:

Another one that springs to mind is Foundry's Max Normal (middle left):

Back from the dead, almost.

I knew I'd missed a bunch! Terrence looks more like a well-dressed thug though (which is, I suspect, the intention), but the others are really nice - especially Max Normal!

Still might get Mainwaring for his wonderful pompousness, but at least there are alternatives.

The curious thing is that while the civvy Mainwaring could pass for Arthur Lowe, the uniformed version looks more like Toby Jones, who is playing him in the remake movie - which hadn't been cast when this mini was first produced.  Spooky.

Ironclad do a couple of Victorians in bowlers - although they are modelled on Stan & Ollie (CH05 & CH06) and the hats are more of a Derby than a Bowler.

I see it too, I think either the pain job, angle or sculpt is making it look like the military version has a thinner face while the civilian version is more rounded.

Also why did warlord do them in slottabases!? If it weren't for that and the subsequent hassle of getting them based up like my other minis I would have bought them by now.

Hehe.

I'm massing an army of unarmed civilians to paint, so I'm afraid that's your lot out, Mason.

What's going on, is that I have a scattering of random pulp characters and two more large leagues to do, but once those are done, I have about 20-30 civilians of all sorts for use all over Europe that I'm going to do up. Good to have some plain men of business in there doncherknow.
