Forthcoming Artizan partisan types...

Recently previewed on the Artizan Yahoo group...

Some very nice figures here to complement the existing resistance types in the Thrilling Tales range.

For some reason I'm seeing these as pulp era additions rather than 'pure' WW2...  These characterful figures offer so many possibilities for the 1930's / 1940's other than merely resisting the Reich...

Just a pity so many of them have berets on, or they'd be a lot more useful. This way they require headswaps. Still, lovely sculpts.

Couldn't Anglian do some more heads - this time bareheaded or with hats and workers-caps. This woul make building up "individual miniatures" for all these popular periods and conflicts (Anglo-Irish, BoB, German Civil War/post-Revolution, SCW, Pulp, very British civil war...) al lot more easy.

or some with balkan type side cap/bicorn or english side cap for specific balkan types of partizans [serbians, greeks etc] and some with bandoliers,too!

I am looking forward to these. Not really sure if I want to use them for a small partisan force, but it's nice to have a good choice.
The berets shouldn't really be a problem. I grew up in the north of Greece and I have never seen so many berets or beret-like hats like in that place. Even my few trips to Bulgaria and then Yugoslavia were Beret-filled.

Maybe my childhood memories deceive me, but I am sure... Everything was made of berets.

partizan in our area usually had those side caps or fur hats or so. very few in beret.
However please note that French do were the beret the wrong side of the head -or we do wear the beret the wrong side.
Tiger Miniatures has some Serbian infantry [balkan and WW1 types] already released. Maybe some headswaps might produce few yugoslav partizans.

Anyhow this is the artizan's choice. They look, too Frenchie to me, but in marketing side I must say that maybe this is larger market than ours in the balkans.
It is sure that some of them should be useful for SCW and French resistance.
[for the latter they need a couple of irregulars with adrian helmet, maybe one or two with german helmet, too.

Never paid attention to left or right worn berets. I am still struggling keeping left and right apart in general. 
I do remember photos from an uncle or something from the Greek civil war (50s) and I was reminded of him by the second guy from the left in the top picture. No idea which way he wore the beret tho. Of course some head-swaps could create the proper Balkan feeling, but I think that these are usable for most of Europe.

Could clip the berets a bit and mold some different hats out of greenstuff without swapping the heads completely.  I think those faces are well sculpted, and it would be a shame to waste them.

Would these work as Carlist Requetes for SCW as is?

You are right. The Bulgarian irregulars [ignoring the guns] are suitable for quite a long time. Alas, this what I have in mibd. In Greece for example the major headgear for the partizans was the side cap! Only some elite [general Aris's mounted bodyguard] used to have fur caps. However all photos or the era show lots of bandoliers, some feature the Artizan's minis lack off.
  For the time being as far as I know Tiger miniatures is preparing some Greek irregulars for the Balkan wars. I do not have more info at the time but I suspect that they might be of Cretan dress, so could be useful for WW2 battle of Creta irregulars, too. It is supposed that Tiger will some day do some minis with Greek style side cap, so there will be some potential of conversions, but again if we have to convert these Artizans, we do not have the bandoliers.

As regards berets, this was the traditional headgear of the basques. It became popular among armies of the world just mid/end WWII when britain adopted it first for elites and then for the whole army. Other armies copied more or less it from the british.  Partizans that fought against the british [as greeks in the civil war] or just opposed them  did not favour berets. It became popular in the left spectrum with Che and similars.

Of, course most french wore berets, but I do not know whether they had it or took it from Basques and nearby people.
