Agit Prop Train info?
« on: 10 October 2015, 02:59:38 PM »
Does anyone know of good books, site or other info about the 1918-1920 agit-prop trains than rode across Russia to teach the revolution?
Especially colour reproductions of the actual paintings on the wagons would be much appreciated.
I've got this sudden urge to paint my plastic train in style.

The color image is difficult to find. However, I think the you need to take as a basis the Soviet posters of the Civil War.

The only colour reference I know of:

from: http://cinesovietico.com/?p=1661 you may want to run that through a translator.

There's a recreation in the film "Reds"

This A great idea,Although I'm intrigued to see how you get on with this. You've inspired my own project (as I'd no thoughts at all on how to paint the carriage for my land train) now I've a head full of ideas for painting, and now also a use for it ,and scenario ideas for Pulp, and more.
So consider this idea 'borrowed '(just for on carriage) and the images are just geek eye candy .So I'll be watching out for the finished train or WIP.

I found these images, they should help with colours if nothing else,as for the slogans no idea my Russian is as good as my Dolphin (could be advertising jam for all I know) still even if there later than you need I suspect the colours would be very similar .The Posters all seem to have a similar limited colour scheme ,This is roughly what I intend to use as inspiration for my own project ( I'm not that bothered if it's not quiet right as its for a fictional role rather than an historical one)As its not really an area I know anything about I'm sure some one will correct me.Your topic has inspired me to look at this subject in greater depth.

Sorry there's no information, they just turned up in a search which led to a photobucket style page and the image info was blank.
These images come from the History Extra site. The image of factory workers is actually an English painting but it emotes the period and is an easier painting style to scale down to 28mm.

In relation to the film "Reds", the train in it appears at around 2:50:17 and is in several scenes including a ambush. There's also another interesting form of rail vehicle at 2:25:17.
