Thank you gentlemen! As written on the blog LBMS decals were way better, but I had so much fun on the first Shields I decided to go freehand on everyone. This has been much quicker than forestalled, and even if the results aren't that great, it is however something I've done in this period of my life, with these skills and this minis. Maybe in a couple of years my Shields will kick some serious donkey.

I really like these, lovely bright colours, and very impressive free hand shields.

I'm very slowly building crusaders for C&C.

How where the horse archers under powered in games? In dark ages Saga I found my Breton's throwing javelins from horse back to be very effective, mainly as they could keep evading from the enemy whilst causing casualties.

Well, I must say Saga and C&C are definitely my favourite game, yet I feel the Saracens are the most ambiguous faction of the whole lot. They have a lot of missile options, but they lack the skill to run away after delivering some not-so-deadly Salvo. To tell it the Breton way, they lack the "In all directions". You add little defensive skills for melee and you have the typical scenario where you fly some arrow and you get steam rolled some minute after. The mods say Saracens are a "steep learning curve" faction, so maybe I'm just a lazy pachiderm :)

Yep, the Breton 'in all directions' is very powerful, otherwise you just end up in easy charge range.

With the Bretons I found I was spending a lot of time fussing about position to stay as far from the enemy as possible but to keep all the guys in range too.

'Steep learning curve' could be worth persevering - there may be some extra combos you are missing, or they could just be really hard too play! With Tyranids in Epic I initially couldn't work out what to do with them to avoid being shot off the table, but as I painted up more units it gave me more options and suddenly they became playable.
