More Perry HYW French Plastic Knights 3-ups
« on: 17 October 2015, 06:47:23 PM »
Quote from: Alan Perry
French foot Knights 1415-29
There will be two boxes of 'Agincourt to Orleans' plastics coming out in the New Year. One will be the French Infantry, samples of which were shown earlier, which will also contain one Knight frame shown here.
There will also be a second box of foot knights 1415-29 out at about the same time, this will contain 3 French Knight frames and 3 English men at arms frames, 36 figures in all.
Although described as French, these Knights, as well as the English, could be used for most European nations around this period.
Going by effigies of the period, the French are often shown in covered armour ( as opposed to the English in their 'White' uncovered armour). However, this isn't a hard and fast rule, both English and French frames can me mixed up.

Great minis, as usual on Perry Miniatures. I read about some players planned to use it on "Game of Thrones" campaign, as Lannister troops, but can't remember where...

Splendid. Much more dynamic poses than the English box too :)
Bit of a strange packing arrangement - I suspect I could do with a couple of frames of these, rather than just one. And I don't think I'll be in the market for another box of 'mixed knights' including three English foot knight frames, when I've already got a couple of frames of those...  :?
Ah well, the second hand market beckons...  ;)

On the plus side, I assume that means the French infantry frame is going to be pretty full of figures - more so than the English army, where we got three frames of infantry and TWO frames of men-at-arms...

I read about some players planned to use it on "Game of Thrones" campaign, as Lannister troops, but can't remember where...

Well I am, definitely  :)

Really looking forward to these, may even inspire me to paint up the English box if I have someone for them to fight.
The box composition looks good to me, should break down nicely for Lion Rampant with the addition cod a unit of mounted men at arms.

As an aside, I don't know why it sticks out to me, possibly because I spend Sunday afternoons playing with longswords, but it seems like all the figures that come with them are left handed. It was the same in the European Mercenaries box as well. It's nice to see left handed figures, but it just seems odd that it's always that weapon.

Alan hinted at the fact that there might be two boxes at Salute but to be honest I was expecting one to be a cavalry set.

Still, I'm not complaining as there are mini's for this period of the (so called) HYW the happier I am  :D :D ;D ;D

Here's to a great New Year!!  ;D

Pretty impressed with these. A tad more dynamic than their English counterparts.  ;)

Should create some interesting kit bashes.  :D

Unfortunately, I was looking forward to a mounted MAA box set too...

Given a bit of time Ray and I'm guessing that they will make an appearance :)

Luvly!

Not to sound too cynical, but... a way to sell more knights/MAA, that a gamer might not need too many of compared to other infantry?

I am sure that the cavalry box will follow soon as it is only one new sprue to make and only needs six new body sculpts.

I actually have more than enough figures from this period but I suspect I will find place for at least a box of each.

Mick et al,

The problem I'm guessing that may pop up with the sculpting of the cavalry box is that  there will be hard decisions to make about what to include in the box. even going on the assumption that it will just be Mounted Men At Arms leaves quite a lot of possible variation in surcoats and tabards as the period of 1415 to 1429 was a real period of flux in terms of this.

I'm not at all sure that lighter types will be included and may, if it is indeed the will or the mightily prolific twins to produce such a boxed set(?), it will probably be a different set.

Of course, all of this is conjecture and I don't really know how things will go. Just making a series of educated guesses! :)

Whatever the case, the future look very bright for this period of the HYW :) As I said earlier, we're all going to be having a great New Year!!  8) ;D ;D :D

Yes, we always have enough figures, but each set gives new impetus and ideas  - these look splendid - I like the greater movement in the poses (on both the knight and men at arms sprues), plus extra variation options across ALL the plastic medieval sets of course.
Will be adding to my HYW for sure.
Hoping 2016 will see these and the mounted versions too...another 15th century bumper crop!
Simon.

I will probably buy both boxes.

I want to have a huge quantity of casualties for my Agincourt project to fill the ploughed fields in front of the archers stakes.
So far I have about 10 Perry metals and 4 more made from the Fireforge Foot Sergeants.
I think I could convert a full box of French infantry as casualties.

I will use the Men at Arms to paint the correct knights for the Loire Valley campaign and Orleans.

For your 1420's French armies, just want to ensure that you're aware of this source for heraldry etc?
