New to Frostgrave [Slaine themed project]
« on: October 22, 2015, 08:49:54 PM »
So, I've had a couple of intro games and bought the RB this evening.

I'm keen to use the Foundry 2000AD figures that i have already: Young Slaine, Nest and Ukko.

Perhaps add the Northstar OG&M Druid as Cathbad.

Starting with those four characters as a Wizard, Apprentice,  Barbarian and Thief  (or Treasure Hunter?) where do you think i should go from there?

Would appreciate help with the Warband composition, type of Wizard and in particular Spells.

I had in mind the Witch which (sic) is closest to the Druid/Druidess and heavy use of Warhounds as Soldiers.

Many thanks

I really like the Witch.

I started with animal companion (bears are awesome),
Poison Dart for range and Brew potion...

Steal health,
Summon Demon,
Enchant Weapon,
Dispel and push... cool of rule mostly :)

I would take a couple of archers as ranged is really strong.

As a big fan of Slaine I will purchase this treat ! The Celtos range by Brigade model can be a good source of minis:

I'd considered doing something similar and had planned to use the witch as the basis for the warband. I also thought taking possess as an aligned spell would be cool allowing you to replace the Slaine (barbarian) with warp spasm model.  ;)

I'd fill the warband out with some Celtic themed figures; so men at arms, thugs and warhounds. Maybe throw in a slinger as well and count him as an archer?

Thanks Mo.

How does this sound:

Witch, Apprentice, Barbarian Treasure Hunter, 2 x Archers & 2 x War Hounds

Thanks Ray. Good call on using Slinger as Archers.

The Foundry Warp Spasm figure is huge!! Line of sight? :D However ithe figure would look great on the table, so Possess is in.

On first reading of the Spells I think Fog instead of Push too.

So, my Druid's (Witch) Spells would be: Animal Companion, Brew Potion, Fog/ Steal Health, Bone Dart, Enchanted Weapon, Possess and ...

For my final spell? I think i have demons covered with Brew Potion and Possess  (rather than Summon Demon). Dispel would be Opposed for a Witch - is it still worth it. What's a good last Spell.

I'll be joining an established campaign [gulp!]

Dispel's neutral rather than opposed (which is just as well as you can't tale a spell from an opposed school when you're starting out) so you'd be casting on a 16+. Personally I wouldn't bother with it. You also can't take Steal Health and Bone Dart, as they're both Necromancy and you need one spell from each of the 3 aligned schools.

Personally, I started with Animal Companion, Familiar, Fog, Bone Dart, Strength, Leap, Heal and Push. All nice, easy to cast spells. But then I wasn't going for a theme with my Witch.

I played elementalist, but decided to go with a witch as well.

I went with the following set of spells:
Control animal, brew potion, fog, summon imp, telekineses, heal

These are the spells that I'll use during levelling. Basically  I throwing out a lot of extra bodies with my spells. Fog is to block off LOS.

I took two spells that I need to level first. Elemental bolt and that necromancer spell that lets you erase the effects of a spell.

The elementalist was all about blasting and moving troops, these spells seem a bit more challenging.

Right! Having thought about this carefully, I'm nicking Chaos Child's list, more or less.

Animal Comp, Brew Potion, Fog, Bone Dart, Strength, Possess, Heal and ...

Push?

Now that we've got the Spells nailed, what do you think to the composition of the Warband? As this is themed the Druid, Apprentice and Barbarian are set but i could take Ukko as a Thief rather than a Treasure Hunter to save points/add Thugs etc?

"Witch, Apprentice, Barbarian Treasure Hunter, 2 x Archers & 2 x War Hounds"

You really need a few more bodies - with 6 treasures on offer you only have 6 people to collect them.  A couple of thieves to start with would be better than a treasure hunter - you can always upgrade later.
