★SA2nd★ [November 2015] Let´s talk about… Cultists!
Hello together,

let´s give this idea a try. We create a discussion thread for one specific unit with a focus for one month. Of course it´s possible to contribute to a certain thread after that month, but it´s nice to have a focus.

This month: Cultists  and Cultleader

Feel free to share

… miniature suggestions for cultists
… pictures of your painted cultists
… your favorite setup and loadouts for cultists in the game
… link reports from the battlefield including cultists
… talk about “Von Unausprechlichen Kulten” in the 2nd edition
… homemade rules or units with a cultist flair

If this catches on, we could go on with another modell for the next month.

Let the summoning begin! Muahahaha!

Great idea! And what a place to start! Who doesn't love cultists? No matter if you are forced by the scenario to use them, just looking to fill a couple extra points or if you need some pitiful mooks for sacrifice! Not the best Lurkers but one of the most versatile profiles out there. If you don't love the simple joy of sending despicable hill billies to their doom you are doing it wrong!

Well, the new line of Cultists that Mike has done are amazing, I should be posting pics in a day, just have to get unlazy and snap some shots, but the setup and such is the time I have to find.

I will say one thing....Uncle Mike, I want my suicide cultist back!!!

As for load outs, I am excited to include the chainsaw, battle axe and other goodies like the flamethrower, not to mention the great skill combos of the new animal handler skill! Dog packs? Hell yea! Hawk attacks! Yea! Crazed cultists on horseback? High Ho Silver!

I have several spare North Star In Her Majesty's Name Servants of Ra Cultists that I shall be using. Will post pics once they are done.

Ok- great topic-

I will pledge to build and paint my cultists in November.

My experience with cultists is generally speaking; they are best used for their access to weaponry. Ranged attacks can become a little rare depending on your model collection. Also, having access to the Tommy Gun or Rifle is nice, forcing threshold agents to take cover and slow their advance when working towards obstacles.

Just the threat or presence of a TommyGun does a lot to change the nature of area control.

Added to the Narative Value of having a cult as a villain- great choice!

Mike also has some of the most accessible and reasonably priced Pulp Cultists on market.

I cannot find the actual pictures of all my Cultists assembled, but when I do I shall post it here.

Until then, here are a few pictures of the Cult of the Purple-Headed Worm up to no good somewhere in a quiet village deep in the English countryside.....

One item of the SA2nd rules I am trying out now is MOBS.  This so far appears to be a pretty potent method of grouping the cultists together in groups of 5 needing only 1 nomination to activate them all as a group and jolly stomp a Threshold agent.  If you have the 4 build points to work with, I think it coupld be well used to make the MOB.

I recently found someone with UMW 1st edition cultists. Not as detailed, but in different poses, so I worked out a small trade to aquire a couple for a couple of my 2nd Edition triples.

Once I start Painting them (which I need to soon for my ongoing Brimstone Mini campaign) I plan on having 2 different cultist groups to use with VUK.

When I saw this thread it reminded me of some figures I have up the "shed" that I haven't played with for years. I dug them out this afternoon and photographed them, they are GW figures which are organised into two cults which I suppose could be joined together to form one large cult.
The large beasts are a cross between Orc bodies and heads and Beastmen legs with lots of greenstuff and Dark Elves hair thrown into the mix. All these figures were painted years ago, so no laughing at the back there  ;)
So here are the Cult of the Beast and the Blood Cult.

Found an old one....

And one with the real 'Cult Leader; revealed.....

I wanted a Mummy figure that would fit 'inside' the Cult Leader figure from Uncle Mike's range.
As the UM Leader is quite large (and my paintjob had made it look more than a little like a puppet  ::)), I thought it would be ideal if the outward appearance was just a disguise, enabling the creature inside to be hidden from onlookers until it chose to reveal its true nature!
When I saw this miniature it just had to purloined for this idea.
Take a look at the face and headgear: It just had to be!
