Star Wars using Chain Reaction 2015
« on: 08 November 2015, 05:02:36 AM »
Chain Reaction 2015 is an updated, streamlined version of the 2 Hour Wargame rules.  I had tried them in the past but would get bogged down in the multiple reaction tables.  This new version promised to be easier to navigate, so I tried them again.  After all, you can't beat free as a price for rules!

I used the free CR2015 rules, and some homebuilt rules for SW found on the 2 Hour Wargames site.  I grabbed some of my son's minis, some dice, and went for it.

It was a short, brutal battle.  Young Obi Wan did complete his objective, but lost some allies in the process.  And the rules?  The updated CR2015 is smoother than the original.  The solo playability was great.  This will definitely cause me to look again at their other rulesets!

Looks fun.  How do the solo rules work?  I've played a little ATZ solo and wondered if it was the same.

I used to play Star Wars with Chain Reaction/5150 many years ago. It worked well, but we struggled with Force Powers. Much prefer playing Star Wars with the Frostgrave ruleset now.

Solo rules worked well.  My previous experience was Long Rifle.  These have less tables, but seem to work better.  I was a bit generous with interpreting the actions.  For example, when the bounty hunter rolled to "move to cover, fire if possible" it seemed natural that he would chuck a grenade at the last known position instead of not shooting.  Hey, it's not his ship, anyway.

My solo play rules of choice from now on.

Cant find the link to the free pdf on the 2hw site. How much of an improvement are the new rules on terms of clarity and layout?

The most recent editions of the free rulesets are pretty streamlined, make sense, and the tables don't give endless "ping-pong" reaction exchanges.

Nice report!
