Frostgrave, 8 Player convention game, The Good Guys
« on: November 10, 2015, 03:21:59 PM »
Last Weekend was the wargame convention Fall In, in Lancaster PA. I ran an 8 player Frostgrave game. It was chaotic but fun. I was previously blogging about putting the table together and building the terrain, but I fell way behind in my schedule so blogging was set aside. I was so far behind that I was painting sections of the table, the morning we were leaving.

With the chaos of the convention behind me, I can post some pics of the build up and the game.

My game consisted of 8 Warbands broken up into 2 sides. The Good Guys and The Bad Guys. Then each Team had individual goals for the game as well as Treasure collecting.

Here are the Good guys:

The Enchanter

The Druid(Witch)

The Cleric(Custom Wizard)

The Elementalist

Treasure tokens for the game. Some of them Custom made.

More pics and write up of the warbands and figures used on my blog:

Xin, comments and questions welcome!

Next up will be Team Evil.

Nice variety of warband styles and mix of minis. Impressive collection of treasure tokens. Thanks for sharing

Looks great, I like a nice colour-coordinated warband.

How did the game actually run with regard to time and down time? We usually play four or five player games, and find ourselves, especially for the first couple of turns, trying to move the game along by dong a lot of things simultaneously, technically against the rules, and then going back a step to unravel any timing contradictions/interactions that crop up.

Monkeylite,

I had 2 teams of four, Good vs Evil. I would call out, "Good Wizards go" then "Evil Wizards Go", etc down the initiative order. The table was 4X6 so early on most of the teams were not in direct contact so we did some simultaneous movement I also added an extra action phase for the first turn to for movement only.

It helps to have a GM to push the game along and keep the turns at a brisk pace. The 2nd game went 10 turns in about 3.5 hours. And that's with all Newbies. By turn 5 the game was on autopilot and the players were running it themselves. Just occasionally asking me a rules question.

Looks to have been quite the labor of love. Very nice. Now I must get paint on my minis!
I should be painting right now.

That treasure token assortment is most excellent. Some very unique and well thought out choices there.

You stated that the Cleric is a custom wizard; what rules do you use?  Also, where did you get the Cleric miniatures?

I think the cleric warband is made up of fireforge templars or maybe Teutonic infantry?

They are definitely Fireforge...I have built enough for my crusader army to recognise them

They are indeed Teutonic Infantry. On my blog, linked above, I cover the figures used for each warband.

I missed the blog link earlier.  My follow up question is whether the cleric's hooded head was included with the Fireforge Teutonic Infantry set.  I've never been able to find a good photo of the sprue.
