Dwarf Warband (Dec 16 Congratulations, it's twins!)
« on: 12 November 2015, 09:48:17 AM »
I already have a fully painted dwarf army for WHFB, and a part painted fledgling dwarf army for LotR. So when a complete dwarf army was put up for sale on another forum, of course I bought it. Wargamer logic.

I first painted up on of my favourite models of all time, just to get back into the beardy spirit. The fancy base was for an online competition, it will be replaced with a standard game base at some point.

Then I painted up a regiment to accompany him, just in case any nasty orcs start calling him baldie, or try sneaking up on his blind side. I went with 12 figures in anticipation of the upcoming Dragon Rampant, but I have recently started playing FantasticSaga so will get to use them in that game too.

The figures are based on 2p pieces, I like the extra bit of space it gives - potential to add little extras if you like that sort of thing - I have restricted myself to a downed pint pot as it happens. And just in case I ever need them ranked up in battle games, I tried out some movement trays from warbases. There's more detail and more pics on my blog.

I am taking a short break  ;) from painting dwarfs while I return to my chaos warriors, but the beards will be back, probably in time for xmas. Not wearing red though.

I would call these guys "perfect". Seriously.

Choice of colours, the painting itself, the bases... if you ask me, everything is exactly as it should be.

And 12 is a good number. For A Fantastic Saga and pretty much any other system.

I have to say, Nord, I'm always impressed by your instinct for colours.

I mean, sheer skill with a brush is one thing, and you've got that in spades as well, but your fine-tuned colour palette... it really imbues those dwarves with a sense of atmosphere.
"When to keep awake against the camel's swaying or the junk's rocking, you start summoning up your memories one by one, your wolf will have become another wolf, your sister a different sister, your battle other battles, on your return from Euphemia, the city where memory is traded." - Italo Calvino

The dwarves look amazing, I'll agree with the others that said perfect job.

I love your base work as well, I'd use 2p if I had easy access but being in the states I use fender washers for all mine.

Great job, two thumbs up  :)

I'd say those are the best painted stunties I've ever seen, and the unit colour palette is tremendous.

Thank you gents, for all the comments, much appreciated. Glad the palette has gone down well, I was concerned it was a bit fussy.

Utterly stunning. I have many of these figures and had considered selling them to reduce the to-do pile. Thank you very much for convincing me not to. :D

Wow! I love them! :-*

Your realistic colours work soo well with these. I think after years of over the top, rainbow coloured dwarves these are a breath of fresh air!

Wheres the tankard from?
