JoeRugby's the Diary of a Rogue Trader (40K) - More Aquila

JoeRugby's Diary of a Rogue Trader (40k)

Because of my recent supply drop of The new Gaunt's ghosts short story collection.

I need to re-read the last few Gaunt's ghosts books which means I'll want to do some hobbying specifically in the 40k universe.

So this post will be focusing on my games workshop 40k(necromunda, inquisitor and inquisimunda) stuff.

My other post will be all non GW sci fi stuff. (When I buy myself a new jigsaw I might do a separate terrain post too)

I hope to have some new stuff up in the week but here's where I stand with 40k stuff at the moment (all stuff that's been collecting dust for a while.)

Albion rifles imperial guard

Basically I wanted British ww2 imperial guard, quite low tech (the guys with no guns are waiting for a good heroic 28mm scale bren gun)

This is Commander Shepard from when I started a Cadian force years ago.

(And I was playing mass effect obviously)
He needs a bit of a repainting to fit with the rest.

This is a conversion for a primaris psyker, I need to add some green stuff wires to the back of his head before I paint him.

Here's a close up of the infantry squad blobs

New heads, shoulder pads shaved down aside from the SRGs left pad. Grenade launchers made to look like those single shot ones you get in COD.
Torsos green stuffed to remove the pecs and the power cell of the rifles moved from underneath to the side.

My Catachan devil vets (I've had these guys I one shape or another since the black crusade global campaign, the fluff was that the commander rescued them from the planet that Abbadon blew up and they just stuck around with him and his Cadians.)

Catachan, Cadian, parts mostly with some bits from chaos marauders and Necromunda heavy weapons.

As I wanted them to be slightly lower tech than normal, sentinels didn't seem right so I gave them a scout jeep.

There's another jeep ready to be kit bashed in my to do pile:)

And of course you can't have guard without tanks :soapbox:

I stopped painting them when I couldn't get the soft edges on the camo makings :*) .
I'm aiming for UK woodland camo pattern and the hard line I'm getting painting them by hand doesn't look right.
I'm going to have another go with my sponges when I get a chance. Otherwise they will have to wait till I get an airbrush.
I've got another leman Russ and a baneblade still on sprue.

Ultramarines

Not a lot done so far

Apologies for the poor pics

Here's some closer pics of  the marines and terminators

They look better in real life honest

Working on finishing the rest of the scouts and a biker at the moment.

Lots more to do hopefully I'll get some decent light to get some pic up later this weekend.

Thanks for looking

Pretty cool. Really like the jeep.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Looks like you made good progress with both of them - well done. :)

For 28mm weapons, MaxMini, Kromlech, and Statuesque have some suitable offerings, and I'm sure that you can find something that would look suitable as a Bren or a Sten, or whatever else.

To do the camo pattern on the tanks, I think you need to do wide patterns with a big brush and very translucent paint, and then build up the layers to that they colour gets increasingly solid as you move away from the pattern edges. You can add some matte medium to your paint to make the paint more translucent without making it more runny (think of the matte medium as paint with no pigment in it, or "blank" paint). It'll take a reasonable number of passes, but it's not too slow if you do a layer on all the tanks each time. Then, once you add some light weathering and details, the camo will look fine!

Finally, for fine cabling like on your Primaris, consider using soldering wire - it's nice and flexible but holds its shape, comes in a variety of sizes, and is less fussy than GS to use for small wires.

Thanks both

Cheers for the tips Major_Gilbear.

Not found an appropriate Bren yet, one of them does an Orc Bren gun but it's too orcy.

I'll defenitly give the other two suggestions a go when I get the chance.

Finished - Statue from the Honoured imperium set.

There was a brief moment of ok light today so managed to get some snaps in.

I'm pretty happy with how the verdigris and white marble look, part of me was tempted to add bird poo to the shoulders and put a traffic cone on his head, but I decided against it in the end for fear of committing heresy.

Thanks for looking

A great base of figures to start from - I like the look you've achieved.

@von lucky - thanks :)

@Commisarmoody - black undercoat first
coat d arms light gray - painted on streaky with all the streaks in the same direction,
Same again with white, painted on streaky over about 80%.
Army painter dark wash was then put on in lines for the " cracks"and I drew in thin black lines with an artists pen in the middle.
And finally I added some bleached bone in lines.
All done making sure that the lines are all going in the same direction.

40k progress since my last post

Test schemes for some Orks

Going for blood axes because I wanted them rocking red camo patterns(so they can be sneaky but do it fast... duh!!). I'll also end up using them as Orx in Deadzone.

Dire Avengers

Got some dire avengers finished....

And I've built up the rest of the squad....

Made 4 of the dire avengers into Women by adding some boob armour from the Eldar guardians sprue. Very easy conversion the hardest part is getting ahold of the female torsos

Thanks All  :D

I hate, really really hate the scout heads so a head swap was a must.

Not a lot of 40k done recently that should change with my dire avengers being primed on the weekend and a hooded head being found for another scout.

Going to have a crack at some more "true scale" marines this weekend using the Horus heresy plastics.

Aegis defence line auto cannon
I do love this bit of scenery, the rest of the line will make it into my pile soon.

Febs mini purchases

Only 2 purchases this month and their possibly 2 of my favourite 40k minis ever

Love the death corps commisar I just think he looks completely bad ass.
Same for this orlock ganger

Thanks for looking and any C&C is most welcome, should be back on weekend with more stuff.
