Glad to see you found what you were looking for. If you have any of the miniatures painted, keep us updated :) (which reminds me that I have to post a few more pictures as well)
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

Good choice, great to see the game was a hit.
Make sure you keep an eye on the BoardGameGeek Descent pages, excellent discussions, loads of hints/tips and great ideas for alternate figures/monster types etc.

Only one thing I was going to mention (appears too late!) is that if the V2 of Descent is like the first the figures don't match up at all with other 28mm figures --- something to consider.

Are the V2 Descent figures still tiny?  I think it would impact some folks if they wanted to use miniatures they already owned etc.

Yep, they are very similar to GW LoTR in size and bulk.

Glad you and your family enjoyed your first game Hobgoblin.

My first thought, on opening the box, was that the hero and goblin figures were indeed tiny. The goblins are a bit smaller than the GW Moria Orcs (but on the same size of bases). The heroes, though, look compatible with my Gripping Beast vikings and Perry foot knights. The two largest, an armoured female elf and a male human, fit in just fine with those. The others are smaller, but all but one of them are female and/or demi-human. The wizard, while as tall as a Perry or Gripping Beast figure, is very slender, with a small head. But he'll probably fit in fine painted. The dwarf looks OK next to Thorgrim Brannedin (the dwarf leader from the first Warhammer scenario) and is probably similar in scale to the LoTR GW dwarves; he's certainly bigger than the classic Ral Partha dwarves. The smaller female elf looks OK next to Mantic or Ral Partha elves.

I don't generally worry too much about scales within the 25-28mm range, as I think it's easy to forget the range of human body types - even among robust males. Any of the rugby teams I played for could  be seen as a pretty diverse range of "scales" if rendered in 28mm form! And female miniatures often seem to be "scaled up", as if sexual dimorphism doesn't exist in humans. So I think the Descent minis will fit in fine. I'm debating whether or not to base them on 25mm round bases or just to leave them as they are. I'll probably go for the former, to aid stability.

Cool, sounds like they're a bit bigger than Descent V1 then...I recall those being very small (on the order of 20mm figures almost).  Good to hear some of them will work...and that only matters if you do intend to use heaps of other figures.  :)

From a blog of the old set...Sounds like you're much better off with V2!
