Castle Meatgrinder: 15mm Dungeon Crawling [NEW May 8, 2020]
« on: 08 November 2016, 01:02:10 AM »
My big project for 2016 has been converting my fantasy skirmish collection over to 15mm.  I've built a decent set of dungeon tiles, dungeon dressing, and collected enough figures to choke a very small horse.  At this rate, I might just get that first delve into the depths of the dungeon in before 2017.  Cross your fingers.

Let's start with the heroes/looters:

Human mercenary warband by Ral Partha Europe, suitable for player characters.

Dwarven warband by Ral Parth Europe, again painted for warband skirmishes, but suitable for D&D characters.

A trio of 15mm.co.uk wizards.  I have a pair of their character packs which give you 12 figures each.  I've been painting them up one class at a time, and this is what I've got so far.

Give me a second and I'll show you what these poor, greedy bastards are up against.

And now for a few of the villains of the piece:

Splintered Light Toadmen

Cave apes by 15mm.co.uk

Skeletons by 15mm.co.uk

Demons by Reaper - these are actually 28mm familiar figures, but they work great in 15mm, too.

Cult of the Dungeongod. This is a mix of Ral Partha Europe and 15mm.co.uk figures.  They work really well together.

Just to close out, here's what the terrain tiles look like:

In keeping with my name, it all fits into a box about the size of two reams of paper:

And there are a couple dozen terrain set-pieces ready to go as well:

It wouldn't be a proper funhouse dungeon without a few traps ready for the unwary:

(I've shown a few of these off in the Workbench forum, but figured its worth a repost for the Fantasy crowd.)

A nice selection and something that one doesn't see every day :) Ral Partha europe is truly a great resource for 15mm fantasy stuff. Maybe you can get hold of some Demonworld miniatures, they had some cool models as well, such as their orcs.

Moldvay Basic D&D, trying to hew as close as possible to the rules as written.  Maybe even to the point of measuring movement with a ruler.

Thanks for the positive response.  I've been trying to keep my lead pile as small as possible, so I've been ordering figures in little batches.  I do have securing more RPE figures on my wish list, but I'd also like to pick up some of the Battle Valor figures as well.  Some of their skirmish packs are great, and I like to spread my dollars around to encourage as many of the 15mm manufacturers as possible - specifically, the ones that sell packs suitable for us D&D types.

I'll try and update this thread as I add more items to the dungeon.  And of course, once I bring these out and use them in an actual game, I'll throw a recap up here, too.

These are the things that make me doubt between 15mm and 28mm...Well, I can always have both

Next on the docket, clerics and warriors.  These are all from 15mm.co.uk's line of adventurers.  You get a dozen randos in a pack, so my collection has a few duplicate figures.  You'll see in the last photo that I tried to mix up the paint schemes to make them look a little different from each other.

Shields are rapidly becoming my favorite things to paint.  That clear palette begs to be filled and pushes my creativity hard:

The one on the left is only a little shorter than the other two.  She is actually striding forward in a dramatic pose that isn't obvious from this angle:

A pretty collection of lovely dressed murder-hobos that will drove away some poor goblins out of their caves.
