Most amazing and inspiring. That first b/w picture of the T-26-S(?) fooled me into believing it was real.

Sorry, i forget sometimes its the WWW, its been on the generic UK/US boards.

The game was put on as a demonstration game at Warfare, Reading UK last weekend. This is effectively my project for this year ( last year was the Aztec one!)and will be extended and augmented for its final outing at Salute, London in 2009. I hope to do a spread for WSS.

As mentioned i will put a tutorial for the terrain on my blog soon.

Rules are a conversion of my 20mm club set, scale 1:1, which focuses on national characteristics which is ideal for this sort of game, i.e the same dice roll for a Mongolian Peoples Republic section will not give the result as a IJA section in the same situation.

The show was two days, the first day the terrain was configured to have a long ridge ( lengthways) representing the Baintsagen heights and the IJA defence. The IJA had 4 37mms, 2 Howzters and 2 75mm with a standard 4 section company, 4th section was knee mortars, all defending the ridge. The MPR attacked piecemeal ( as historical) for the first two attacks using a Company of infantry, BT5s, Mongolian A/cs and T26s ( 36th Mech ?) These attacks were beaten off decisively. The 37mms effectively knocking out the lead tanks gradually causing morale failures, the artilery effectively demolished each wave of infantry. Fairly predictable and realistic. The third attack was concentrated and coordinated much better ( a la Zhukov) with a reienforced company, 45mms and 75mms. This concentrated on the IJA left flank and was much more effective as the Russkies gradually rolled up the flank, albeit with heavy casualties. The IJA committed its tank reserve but the day ended before they got into action.

The second day we used the MPR attacking width ways over the Khalkin Gol Bridge, assaulting the IJA front line. Again some lucky shots from the 37mms caused morale failures on the T26 and BT5 sections, causing them to stall and seek cover. The IJA guns were dug in and difficult to spot, they continued to pick off the stragglers one by one until the remaining tanks retired or brewed  up ( you'll notice all the pictures with dismounted crews ). This left the infantry fair game for the knee mortar support section and a regular section. Eventually the MPR positioned two Maxims in support and the ridge was cleared. The IJA refusing to retire. The remaining part of the day consisted of a spirited attempt to retake the ridge by four IJA type 97s, the two 45mms and Maxims stalled this almost before it started.

It was difficult to play any more turns as you'll appreciate we were answering a lot of questions and the game generated a lot of interest winning best of show. The rules gave realistic results and at the right level of detail to flow. Cant wait to play it behind closed doors.

Hi Neil,

I've already commented on the TMP site, nevertheless a worthy effort by all involved in the project. Very well done indeed.

On the WW1 & WW2 site I'd placed up sometime ago this topic:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=7860.0

You mentioned that the Russian ACs were from AGN. To me they look like they are from FOA who still make the BA and FAI. Am I incorrect in this? I was not aware AGN sold these cars.

Looking forward to seeing your improvements to this demo.

Helen
Best wishes,

Helen, sorry you're correct they are FOA, i think via the Wargames Command Post, it all gets confusing these days -lol-.

The TBF has been drybrushed green, i will airbrush them on the next boards as the paint tends to "clump" which needs combing out.
