Stern Parliamentary Regt. of Foote
« on: November 27, 2008, 11:44:37 AM »

Okay, here's the next batch...

Again, substantially painted by the very excellent Baner, flagged, based and finished off by me...

Only two more regiments to go!  ;)

I am very far from ECW and here is an off topic question:
was any significant difference between parliamentarian and royal regiments?

A second thought:

As this will be a series of eye cand painting job, at the end we need to make a poll:
which is the best!!!
[I doubt that there will be anyone, all are so beautiful!!!! and ofcourse the winner will be everyone who has the privilege to see these photos]

Agree! …and they’re also a great source of inspiration to the forthcoming Warlord Games plastic ECW!  ;) :D

How can anyone not fall in love with the ECW after seeing all your figures?

Good job I'm already obsessed, or I'd be cursing you [ and Baner] along with all the others who make me branch out into new and expensive periods  lol

No, not really. The two sides were pretty indistinguishable at the outset. 'Colonels' raised and equipped their own regiments and to a greater or lesser extent uniformed them in coats of whatever colour took their fancy...
The only distinguishing feature that most historians seem able to agree on was that royalist forces tended to wear red sashes, and parliamentary forces wore orange sashes, although there is a good deal of conflicting evidence about this, and it probably wasn't consistent.
Towards the latter end of the war(s), the parliamentary 'New Model' Army began to adopt a far more uniformed appearance, with red coats as standard for infantry regiments - the likely origin of the British army's famous red coat (although having said that, there were earlier royal guard units who also wore red uniforms).
Certainly, as far as equipment, armour, weaponry and tactics, there wasn't much difference between the two sides, at least for the earlier phases of the war(s)...

Thank you very much.  I had the same opinion, but as I advised you I am quite far away from ECW [not quite within my interests] and I wanted some confirmation.

Now the problem is:
How can anyone not fall in love with the ECW after seeing all your figures?

thanks for all those eyecandy miniatures!

I was JUST going to ask about the 'uniform'-thing. Nice to know... (jus in case...  ;)  )

How about the cavalry of the New Model Army - did Parliament troops wear any particular distinctions?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Very similar Argonor it was the style of fighting or rather training that tended to change with the New Model Army under Cromwell being known as Trotters using the Caracole but also being able to charge and recover . The ECW is known in the early period and the Royalist cavalry throughout for being one hit wonders where once they charged they tended to pursue beaten enemy off the field and go in search of plunder only to miss the rest of the battle.

Now your Scots are a different matter Hodden grey was the unifomr but this varied by origin of manufacture, the Blue Bonnet was universal and armour was less common than in England. There were one or two regiments who wore read suppled by the English and also the odd blue regiment. There was even a regiment in black allegedly supplied from Ministers cassocks.

Highlanders would be in plaid (not kilts) and wear saffron shirts (leine)

Something which can be added into regiments are mercenaries either English or foreigners from Europe who might wear European fashions e.g. loose trousers etc. These weren`t present in big numbers but could add a bit of colour to units if mixed in (I assume better pickings in Erope.
