What are the very best 15mm Hittites?
« on: 05 December 2015, 12:13:11 AM »
I have some some Old Glory, and they are ... mediocre. Half the spearmen are missing half their spears due to poor castings, and generally I am underwhelmed. I like the idea of Hittites quite a bit, and would like to have the quality of, say Forged in Battle.

Any thoughts?

As well as Old Glory there are Essex Miniatures, Black Hat Miniatures, Lancashire Games, Magister Militum,  Hall of Ancient Warriors, Falcon Figures, and Mick Yarrow Miniature.

But none really stand out?

No.  IMHO all look quite dated and are more playing pieces than miniature figurines.

My Hittites are 28mm.

Disappointing. I'll Finish what I have. I added some Essex; mediocre again. Hmmm.

On to Forged for Germanic Angry Hordes!

Wow, so really looked around, and between the typical horrible miniatures website that companies seem to favour, and pics gamers have done, there truly are NO outstanding Hittites.

I'm going to cap this project with what I have in the hopes that Forged in Battle Ancients line moves in this direction; until then - why waste time on crummy, poorly cast minis?

Been none new in a long time, unfortunately. I'm just expanding mine and I have done a bit on conversion to add variety - hoping that the appearance of them in big numbers will make up for some of the flaws. Problem is that the different manufacturers have differences in style which mean it's hard to match them up to get a variety. Essex have opted for very large shields. My core figures are Chariot Miniatures which are now sold by Magister Militum, to which have been added Falcon UK - bit smaller and hard to get hold of these days, Essex, some Lancashire games (I think - a bit crude but I think they will look ok in the units), some other chariot figures which have been converted from other ranges, but no Gladiator (now Black Hat) because they are simply too big to match.

Should have mine done in a month or so. Murphy's Law dictates that a great new range will come on to the market about a week later!

Havg said all that, I attach more importance to individual figures in larger scales. In 15mm and lower, it's about the appearance of the unit.
